Re: Clutch issues and potential upgrades

If the dealer is willing to use after-market parts, are you thinking of a single-mass flywheel ?

Re: Clutch issues and potential upgrades

I certainly was Kev. The dealer advised me that they have had cases of the crankshafts cracking after installing a SMF on Patrols and Navaras. Obviously this would not be covered under warranty. We decided that given I am planning a Cental Oz trip next year it was too risky, so went for the DMF.

Re:

It's news I was not wanting to read Todd.
They don't make a SM Flywheel for the diesel anyway.
That's one reason why I brought a D22, cause they have a normal flywheel and clutch.
The D40 is the model with the DMF.

I said to the dealer that they don't make a SMF for the diesel but they assured me that they do. They must know something I don't.

Re:

They also told me that there was a SMF available when I had my dramas and then realised that they don't after I said to go ahead with that.
Honestly they don't have a clue.

Todd,
Have you spoken to a clutch specialist relating to the crankshaft crap Nissan spun you.
Give St Marys Brake and Clutch or Specialised Brake and Clutch in Penrith a call and pick their brain.
You should ask them for a quote while your chatting to them.

Re: Clutch issues and potential upgrades

My mates old man owns a transmission shop in Parramatta. Wasn't going to be able to beat the price. I will be taking the clutch and flywheel to him after it's all done and giving him a look. If he think we are still a good chance to get some $$ back I will then cut open the flywheel and see whats going on inside.

re the crankshaft issue if the car was out of warranty I would have gone the SMF no question. As it's still under warranty and I'm planning the big trip next year I took the safe option. Once this one goes I will switch to a SMF no question.

Re:

At least your clutch mate will stand next to you at the tribunal if you end up going that far, the two mentioned above didn't want to know me if pen had to be put to paper or wasting their time at the tribunal, even if I was willing to pay then for their time.

Re: Clutch issues and potential upgrades

Just picked up the car. The clutch is super tight now. So much so that I stalled leaving the dealer. It has never felt like this since I've owned it (since 9,000km).
Grabbed the old clutch and flywheel but no time to have a play yet. Had a quick look at the face of the clutch and flywheel and not a single mark on either other than normal, very fine wear. Spoke to the mechanic at the dealer rather than the sales guys and said I plan on cutting it open with a grinder to see whats gone wrong. He said his bet would be a bearing collapsed inside the flywheel. If he is right I will definitely be chasing this further.

Tony, found out who is doing SMF conversions for the diesel. These guys do them but I have no idea what they charge. From the quote I got from the dealer it seems they are actually cheaper than the DMF.

Yeah Tony massive hole in the pocket.
Just finished putting the bash plate and provent back on. Very happy to get the car back before this weekend. Would have been devastated to miss the trip this weekend.
