Kim: HERE are the H8 yellow bulbs, but are you sure the fog lights are H8s? They seem too large to fit into the fog lights and look more of a headlight bulb.

I don't have a H11 on hand to compare it. The photo should give you a fairly close measurement.

Previous experience - are you an electrician or auto-electrician? It is also true that the most likely location for a problem in any wiring is the connections. The fewer the number of connections, the better. A bad connection, especially combined with a slight increase in load (even if it's still within the capacity of the wiring), will eventually overheat and can even catch fire before a fuse can operate to prevent it. Tell-tale signs are as you have mentioned - melted connections. If you see smoke, it's too late!

I am not an electrician by all means. Just happened to have tried a lot of bulbs ranging from Raybrig, PIAA, Philips, Osrams and unknown brands in my previous car. Have also upgraded the wiring in previous car with two seperate relays to supply the maximum voltage to gain the maximum brightness. Invest a lot to learn how it works properly.

Totally agree with you that once you see smoke, it's the beginning of another nightmare.

Re: T31 Fog lights

Fair enough Kim.

Looks like Nissan is making it harder for T31 owners to find aftermarket bulb replacements, as the H8 size is not very popular at all and hard to find.

After reading more about the differences between H11 and H8, they're NOT inter-changeable, they might look the same, but the base is different.

Have a look at the difference between them HERE

In this case, I believe the JDM Yellow ones I posted earlier may be your only option to go yellow. (there is a note on that page stating they can be used for fog lights)

Re: T31 Fog lights

That link is somewhat contradictory.

In the H8 text it states that "it is tempting to install a H11 inplace of a H8" but then in the H11 text it states "the base keying of the H11 is different from the H9 & H8".

Re: T31 Fog lights

I don't see any contradiction Kev, it is tempting to install the H11s because they look the same, but they're not. That's how I interpreted it.

Re: T31 Fog lights

But the reasons for NOT replacing a H8 with a H11 was due to extra heat, not base fitting.

Re: T31 Fog lights

It's base fitting Kev. Google it and you'll find the answer.

There is one extra pin in the H8 base of the bulb which the H11 does not have.

Re: T31 Fog lights

Apparently a lot of the new cars are using H8 as fog ie Ford Focus, Merc..etc. Just have to wait until more options become available in the market.

At the moment I am using a so called yellow bulb but it's not as yellowish as i wanted. Will take photos when I get home tonight.
