Re: T31 Suspension Lift

G'day,

I have emailed Pedders, Bars N' Racks and ARB.

Both Pedders and Bars N' Racks say that they don't currently have a kit to fit the T31 but to call back in a month or so as one is in development.

ARB's response: "ARB can supply Old Man Emu suspension for your model, however due to the coil over strut arrangement O.M.E. suspension supplies a 25 mm lift over standard ride height. This coil arrangement also requires the coils to be removed to fit struts, so i would recommend that the coils & struts be fitted together. Your vehicle will also require a front & rear wheel alignment. ARB at Moorebank can supply & fit for approx $1720.00".

I emailed back to ARB to see if they have spacers that will increase the height of their lift kit to 2 inches.

$1700 for 25mm is not worthwhile in my books!

That was exactly my impression when they told me the price for their T30 spring & shock absorber replacement lift kit several years ago. While not as expensive as the T31 kit, it was still about 3 times the price of just getting springs supplied and fitted somewhere else (such as Pedders), and had less overall lift than all the other options.

I don't like your chances with ARB having spacers. I'd try Superior Engineering who developed the spacers for the T30... Have a read of that particular thread or google them for more info.

I can understand where ARB are coming from - they only want to sell something that has been tried and tested thoroughly, and don't want to go to the extreme (for want of a better word emoticon ) and risk getting blamed for damages caused by "extreme" lifting compared to the vehicles factory limitations (eg: CV joints etc) but in saying that, I don't know of any forum members who have lifted their T30 that have come across any problems yet, and some of them have pushed their X-Trails pretty hard (*cough* Alex *cough*).

Re: T31 Suspension Lift

Talking about coil over strut arrangements, it sounds as though ARB don't know that the T31 have the springs mounted separately from the struts in the rear.

I noticed that too - they are completely independent and well clear of each other on the T31

NOT A LIFT..... BUT LOAD SUPPORT!

I've got a T31 that regularly tows a camper trailer. The problem is that the standard rear suspension doesn't cope with the extra weight. I'm trying to stop the X-Trail from driving like a boat!!!

Has anyone installed or heard of installing Poly airbags or Coil Rites to help the springs with the load.

Re: T31 Suspension Lift

I posted an article on the first page of this thread about airbags and in it there is a section on Load Assist usage.
Air Bag Suspensions
All you need to do is find a suplier close to you as the T31 has separate coils and the airbag insert should do the trick.

Re: T31 Suspension Lift

Thanx Kev

That's the info I needed!

I rang Parramatta Shocks and Brakes, they can supply a kit that will fit inside the spring that can be inflated to put some weight back on the front wheels.
$345 for the Coil Rite kit .... self install (apparently quite easy) made by Firestone.

Thanks again.

Re: T31 Suspension Lift

You're welcome. emoticon

That sounds like a bargain for any T31 owners who need to level out a van, boat, other trailer or heavy load. Thanks for sharing the info on contact details and cost.

Re: T31 Suspension Lift

More than happy to help!

There's still the issue of tow ball weight and the legalities, insurance (if you in an at fault accident) etc .... but as long as the nose of the X-Trail is on the level, I'm OK with it.

Cheers
