First 4WD experience

G'day all,
Hope you're all doing well, I thought I would start this post so people could tell us all there first 4WD experience. (I did a quick search but could only find dedicated stockton beach experiences, ete)

Mine was not even planned, on the weekend we visited the Hunter Valley to see Elton John at Tempus Two with my wife and our second hand 1 week old ST-S '06 Exy. When we entered the parking area (Parking area = paddock, grass, mud, and more mud) we were separated from the normal cars and sent to the bottom of the paddock where I finally got to test AUTO & LOCK MODE for the first time, and I must say when we got back to the car, even with further rain that night it felt a little daunting for my first experience as ours is a manual and I thought the bumps in the field would be a problem controller the clutch smoothly when taking off, but I was surprises when the bumps and holes were absorbed so well within the car and I hardly felt them, and starting from a stand still position I was also impressed how well the car gripped with the 16" H/T Duelers (Which I think are factory tyres?). As I woke Sunday morning the first thing I did was look at the car, and thought to myself… Yes finally, it’s christened... but then I had to turn and look at the wife and with a straight face trying not to smile and had to regretfully say "I think we need a car wash ". emoticon I preferred the dirty look.

So now, I think I’m addicted and need to work on the wife to get it off road more emoticon you got to love the unplanned scenarios.

Were any other fellow xtrailholics at this event? And enjoy the parking area?

So, what other experiences do you guys have for your first time off road? Even it was unplanned?

Hi Liam,

The Trip Reports section of the forum lists ALL of the off-roading experiences by members of our forum and there are more than just the Stockton beach trip reports.

I have moved your post to the Trip Reports section, as this is the correct section where we encourage our members to share their 4WD experiences.

In addition to this existing section, we have summarised most of the trip on the Main Site HERE and we will soon be updating this section to include the more recent trip reports.

Thanks Jalal,
I wasn't too sure if this post belonged in the trips section as it was not really a trip.

    Thanks for moving it.

Re: First 4WD experience

While it may not technically be an official trip report, it is your first offroad experience, and I reckon you'll never forget it.

Now the bug has bitten, you've already suggested you want to convince your wife to let you get it dirty again...

Next you'll be hassling her to let you "take that little short-cut by the side of the road". I've only been allowed once (near Duckmaloi, on the way to Oberon), and it turned out to be a dead-end, but I've since discovered another one nearby to it and every time I just keep saying "there's that short-cut I want to try out" but every time we go past it, we're usually in a rush to get back home or visitting friends on the way home, and don't have the time to explore...
