I find I use it on everything in and around the outside of my Exy. Sunroof seals, rails, rubbers on roof rack, door rubber seals, engine bay cleaner, door handles, key holes, wiper arms (not blades !). Use a cloth to keep it spread evenly and make sure you don't get it on things like steering wheel, gear knobs, door knobs cos they get slippery. nondisclosed_email@example.com (AkaZulu)Wed, 03 Mar 2010 12:10:56 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2040295,from=rss#post2040295https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2040295,from=rss#post2040295quote:Or just find a sheep and rub it on. Silicone spray is a good product and lasts a long time, but the squeak will come back. The best product to use is lanolin as it is natural and always leaves rubber soft. You can buy it in a can like bees wax. Or just find a sheep and rub it on. nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Wed, 03 Mar 2010 04:41:19 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2040265,from=rss#post2040265https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2040265,from=rss#post2040265OK all, I have solved my sunroof rattling noise problem. It was not a rattle, but an intermittent squeak ! I realised this after a 4WD trip last month when the sunroof constantly squeaked along the trails with each flex of the body and then also started doing it on the road with bumps in corners. So I asked my local service manager (very helpful guy as always) who suggested the sealing rubber was probably dry from weathering and that I should clean the dirt off the seal and then spray it with SILICONE spray to soften and lubricate it. Anything else will deteriorate the rubber and require it to be replaced. Well I did this on the weekend and can now say there is no more squeaking nor any "rattle" from the sunroof.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Tue, 02 Mar 2010 09:50:39 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2012564,from=rss#post2012564https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2012564,from=rss#post2012564Will do Jalal. It seems to be worst when the car has been sitting in the sun on a hot day. Park it in the shade and let it cool down and the rattle either disappears or gets much quieter. I never have this rattle in the morning and always have it in the afternoon when the car has been sitting in the sun.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Tue, 04 Mar 2008 15:48:33 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2007606,from=rss#post2007606https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2007606,from=rss#post2007606Had a look at this yesterday and here is the amount of dirt on the seal at the corners. I've cleaned it off and will see how my rattle goes. One thing I have noticed about the rattle is that it seems to be worse if the car is sitting in the sun for a few hours rather than first thing in the morning or if it has been raining and not very hot.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Mon, 24 Dec 2007 06:54:01 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2007604,from=rss#post2007604https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2007604,from=rss#post2007604That's worth a try as mine it still making noise.nondisclosed_email@example.com (RonV)Sun, 23 Dec 2007 20:43:29 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2007586,from=rss#post2007586https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2007586,from=rss#post2007586One thing I observed while travelling on some god forsaken country road between Warwick and Casino last week was I developed a rattle in the roof. Was rattling while the shutter was open with sunroof closed, but gone altogether with the shutter closed (and sunroof closed.) It was driving me INSANE because it's right near your head obviously. So I opened the sunroof at the rear and ran my finger around the rubber seal to check it for damage. All I got was a filthy finger (minds outa the gutter guy's!) But upon closing it, the sound had gone! It was a definate RATTLE sound, not a squeak! It appeared later in the week again in Brisbane, so I cleaned the rubber of the filth it collects and the roof seam. Again, the noise dissapeared. So it seems to me when the rubber gets filthy from normal grime, it vibrates and causes a rattling noise. I would not have believed it if I had not seen it for myself. So for all you people with intermittent noises comming from the roof, try cleaning the sunroof gasket rubber. Worked for me. Hope this helps someone, Best wishes, nondisclosed_email@example.com (GruntaHunta)Sat, 22 Dec 2007 20:40:30 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006529,from=rss#post2006529https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006529,from=rss#post2006529It did once but it is certainly a lot quieter. I tried to twist them up and to the outside of the car. What it really needs is something sticking between the blind track and the inside roof but it is not easy to get to.nondisclosed_email@example.com (RonV)Sat, 17 Nov 2007 06:45:23 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006498,from=rss#post2006498https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006498,from=rss#post2006498Hi Ron, Is it still rattling? I really didn't want to advertise this until I had a rattle free couple of weeks but so far 4 days later and no rattles. If I did manage to bend the track at all, it would have been ever so little (ie less than 1mm in the middle of the track). No hammer or any other tools were used The track was the track for the shutter. Not sure if the track did actually twist but for the time being the noise is gone. I'm sure a piece of tissue would have worked too provided you can get it between the lining and the track. The roof still closes properly as well which is a bonus. If the noise comes back I'll take the lining down. Please note that in my case, the noise disappeared when touching the lining gently, without putting pressure on it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (RonV)Mon, 05 Nov 2007 17:46:25 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006075,from=rss#post2006075https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006075,from=rss#post2006075Hi Ron, In the Canadian Xtrail link Jalal provided, one member posted quote:In the end i gave up, i've taken the plastic off around it to look for a fix, and i can stop it by shoving tissue into it, but of course that doesn't look so good and mean u can't close the shutter So I think the rattle must be from the track for the shutter rather than the sunroof itself. I also have the rattle for the last few months and I am going to investigate this further and report back.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Sun, 04 Nov 2007 14:12:31 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006061,from=rss#post2006061https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006061,from=rss#post2006061Ron, If you think it's the roof lining that is causing this, it'll be easy to prove that. Just stick a thick piece of sponge in there and drive a round for a couple of days to see if the noise is gone. If it'll help, then you need to take the entire roof lining off to see where it has been un-glued to fix the problem.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sun, 04 Nov 2007 08:57:23 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006060,from=rss#post2006060https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006060,from=rss#post2006060I'm not 100% convinced that the noise is caused by the track itself. When touching the roof lining near where the sound comes from it stops, so it must be something with the track and the roof lining. From reading the Canadian forum some members had their track replaced yet the sound came back. It could also be that the noise was eliminated by removing and re-fitting of the roof lining.nondisclosed_email@example.com (RonV)Sun, 04 Nov 2007 08:26:52 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006032,from=rss#post2006032https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006032,from=rss#post2006032Refer to THIS thread on the Canadian forum.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sat, 03 Nov 2007 12:44:40 +0000 Re: Rattling noise from sunroofhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006031,from=rss#post2006031https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2006031,from=rss#post2006031Mine is making the same rattle, Jalal can you point me in the direction of where you saw this?
