Re:

Let's agree to disagree on this, I have driven both and I know what am saying and there are others who came from a T30 to a T31 CVT who share these views. Still a great car, just not as "zippy" as it used to be emoticon

I realized after a year of driving with the CVT that it is simply not for me and am not seeing the "fuel improvement and effeciency" this transmission is supposed to be bringing with it, so it all sounds like a huge sales ploy and nothing else!

What about the diesel? Is the acceleration good since it's using the traditional gearbox?

Re: X-Trail T31 - CVT transmission

Sadly my experience with the T31 CVT has been less than great.

Yes Exy is a nice car, and my wife enjoys driving it. I agree it is not as Zippy as discussed earlier. My biggest complaint is reliability. 1st one replaced at 40,000k, now the 2nd has failed after 40,000k. Does the forum have a count to date of failed CVT vs Xtrails sold?

I'm still waiting to see what our repair cost will be but rest assured I will never buy another CVT Xtrail.

Cheers

Les

Re:

Les, I did a count on our Facebook page of failed CVT transmissions and only 4 people responded, so I reckon the number of failed CVT overall is not that great/huge but we will never know and Nissan won't admit it's a problem as the low number of failures is not forcing them to do anything about it (yet).

Re: X-Trail T31 - CVT transmission

Surely the T31 CVT isn't as slow as it would seem to be from reading the previous?

I seem to remember reading that it did 0-100kph in 9.5 seconds.

I thought it was also alleged to be a 'smart' box , ie it adjusted to driving style.

In that respect, I have found that after giving it a touch of toe to the accelerator, it has chosen to hit higher rev's (lower gear) for better acceleration the next time I booted it.

Naturally, having only ridden the whale, I cannot compare it to an alleged dolphin.

However, I'm surprised by the alacrity shown by the T31 when she's asked nicely.

So to resolve the question, is there a comparison anywhere for the 0-100 kph times for the T30 CVT vs T31 CVT?

Alternately or preferably as well, is there a comparison between the T30 and T31 for 0-100 kph using the manually selected auto ratios using the sequential paddle auto ?

Sorry to hear that Les.
Are you going to see the people who installed the second one?
They might feel sympathy for you and work something out.

Re: X-Trail T31 - CVT transmission

Hey Tony.

Exy just forgot where reverse is... Tries to use ratios around 4th gear and goes nowhere. In drive it is getting worse. Currently sitting at Nissan Hobart waiting the response from a goodwill claim, 6mths out of warranty with a second transmission fault. Have sought advice from several mechanics here ALL report the CVT is a problem and to sell it if it gets fixed. One mechanic said his dad had 3 CVT's under warranty, He now has a manual.

It's my wife's car. Have had 2 Maxima's and a Pulsar before that never gave a problem. May stay with Nissan, just stay away from CVT's

Cheers Mate
