Re:

The main standard the nudge and bull bars need to comply with is airbag compliance and they need to be accompanied with a certificate stating the same. Most reputable businesses in Australia that offer xtrail nudge bar and bullbars have the compliance sorted and can provide you with a certificate if you ask or attach it to the invoice at the time of sale. eBay nudge bars are the ones to stay clear off because none of them offer any sort of compliance record.

Re: Nudge Bars & Bullbars for the new X-Trail T31

I have the Tuff bullbar Aero (not the cow catcher one) fitted to my t31 in the black ripple. I also got it upgraded be winch compatible and will be instaling a doma8r 12000lb winch later in the month. One thing that I did not like about the bar was how low it was mounted on the car however once I got the bar diliverd and had a close look at the mounting brackets I was able to mod them to lift the bar 30mm from where it was ment to sit. This has alowed me to keep the same aproch angle as stock and still have the full protection they comes from one of these seriously strong bullbars. After fitting a set of spot lights and a uhf aerial the bar looks right at home. On a side note I would not attempt to do this yourself if you are not 100percent confident and have the right tools.

That's not a good idea to modify it like that, you have just voided any warranty and have made it an illegal fitment.
I can't believe that you are actually considering mounting a winch to the front of an Xy, bullbar compliant or not.
The bullbar might be able to accommodate the winch but the minute you try and pull yourself out of a bog, you will undoubtedly rip the bar right off the front including the mounts and even half the front of your X Trail.

If I were you I would seriously re consider.

I was actually wondering about the difference between a nudge bar and a bulbar. I can see the bulbar is bigger and no doubt heavier, but does it actually offer better protection to the radiator? Or just more side protection to the headlights? It is still attached to our whoosie chassis as Tony has pointed out, altho I can see Ian salivating emoticon at yet another improvement on his hybrid.

Re:

It all depends on the type of nudge bar and bulbar you choose. The factory nudge bar for example is just a useless piece of plastic stuck on the face of the front bumper which provides no protection whatsoever emoticon

So true.
Looking at the ECB high nudge bar which looks like it would give a bit of radiator protection AND a place to mount an antenna (currently using handhelds.)

Some people say get a black hammertone to stop sun reflection upwards, but GirlinOz's is silver and doesn't look too reflective- but she has an enormous bull bar...does size matter???

So many wants, thinking accessories will soon be worth more than the car.

Re: Nudge Bars & Bullbars for the new X-Trail T31

Before you get too carried away Jalal .there are circumstances around why I moded the mounting brackets. First tuff would not place any warranty on the install of the bullbar because I was doing it my self ( completely fair and understandable). Second thy would not warrant the use of the winch on the bar, not because it couldnt be done it was that they have never tested one so could not place warranty on it (bit crap but still can understand) so with all that in mind and the use of the car being mostly off road touring I went for it I also welded reinforcing on the mounting brackets to compensate for the small amount of metiral I removed. Now the use of the winch if you were to have a look at where the bar is mounted too you will see the is spreding the load over both sides of the front crash bar ( wich is where all the nudge bars mout too including the factory one) where the factory recovery / tow point is so with this in mind one would think this is a sutable place to tow the car from. Now the recovery point is only on the far left (passanger side or the crash bar so most of the load fromtthe tow point would ne on thos side where the bar spreads the load over bpth sides of the crash bar and in my mind this makes it strong enough to winch from.
