Re: Nudge Bars & Bullbars for the new X-Trail T31

Best is not to hit an animal in the first place and whilst some animal strikes are unavoidable most and sometimes all can be avoided by simple commonsense driving.

Don't drive around dusk if the kangaroos are about. If they are thick on the road just bed down for night. Have good driving lights and point them out to the side a bit and then drive at appropriate speeds (this might mean 80km/h or 40km/h or just crawling at times depending on conditions).

Have the front seat passenger act as a spotter for animals. If you keep alert and have eyes scanning everywhere you'll miss most/all animals that are seen.

If the growth along the side of the road is high and so there would hardly any warning of an animal running across the road then you drive slower say 60-80km/h at times when animals are active.

Defensive driving really - it's better to arrive late than not at all - especially when in remote areas.

Thanks Translucidus, A good read, never really thought about thick vegetation to the side. Very good point. Once again talking to people gives you Information.
Thanks to people like yourself and others who have an input to X-Trail Forum, is what makes it enjoyable.
I'm new to this site and what I have noticed as I have been browsing, is that there is no muck throwing, great.

I have the ECB big tube bullbar on my exy. It looks fantastic. I went with a full sized bullbar because there are so many roos and also emus out where I live. A few small birds decided to test it out already, luckily nothing larger. When I get back home from my holiday I'll post some pics of my ride

Hi Guys,
I took these couple of pictures of a Series 4 on the way to work the other morning. Personally, I think it looks out of place, it's low and sits out along way. Maybe the ower sub contacts to the City council and he pushes cars out of Clearway Zones after 5:00PM, then uses it to pushstart Speedway cars on Saturday nights. Each to his own I suppose.

Yeah, it's one of those "made in China" cheap job ones and probably isn't airbag compatible either. I can only imagine what would happen to this nudge bar if he decides to reverse in an off-road situation with rocks along the way! emoticon

Re:T31 Nudge and Bumper Bar

Image

Had this Tuff Bull Bar fitted. Made in Queensland, sent to SA to be fitted. There is mesh to stop stones hitting the radiator, I fitted the most open weave pergola mesh to stop grasshoppers and bugs.
Installed into the Bull Bar are indicator lights, driving lights and parking lights.
Two brackets for Ariel's, Two brackets for big lights - spot or flood.
I made up a rear short bumper out of 50 mm x 4 mm square tube that slots into the towbar with reflective tape, taped to visible areas. (sides and rear)
A diagonal tape of red and silver stripes.
Will post a photo soon of this rear bumper.

Admin Edit: Photo converted to thumbnail.

Re: Re:T31 Nudge and Bumper Bar

I like the look of the bar. Good design for animal strike.

Is it a complete 'fit over' the original plastic, or are parts of the original bumper cut away to fit the new bullbar?

One question....Did you consider fitting the black/silver/white aluminium radiator protection mesh available from Supercrap for about 20 bucks before going for shade cloth?

Re:

Got a quote for an ECB big tube from Aranda Towbars. $1300-$1400 installed. Not sure if that includes wiring of lights.
