ARB / Nissan Nudgebar Measurements

Hi All

Could those of you with the Nissan or ARB nudge bars please give me the measurement from front of nudge bar to front of standard bumper bar so I know how much longer it will make the Exy.

Also are the ARB bars just mounted at the bottom or do they have another support bracket near the cross bar ???

Thanks

Darryl

Re: ARB / Nissan Nudgebar Measurements

Hi Darryl,

There are existing threads for both the factory and ARB nudge bars with pics which am sure will help you get an idea.

Just type in "Nudge Bar" in the search field and you'll see these existing threads.

Your question will be better positioned in one of the existing threads for a better responce.

Re: ARB / Nissan Nudgebar Measurements

No worries Jalal

I found fitting instructions for Nissan ones and some pics but no measurements earlier in the day.

I was debating whether to post it in the techo section so I'll try that.

Cheers

Darryl

The existing threads are in the "Accessories section" not the Technical one.

HERE is a thread with heaps of information about the Nissan Nudge

And HERE the ARB one.

Please choose any or both of these threads and post any follow-up questions in them.

Silly question, but why. Are you worried about not being able to fit in the garage. I will measure for you tomorrow.

Re: ARB / Nissan Nudgebar Measurements

Easy - one garage is shorter then the other as it has a set of wide steps going up into the house. It will fit but one of the reasons we didn't buy a new RAV 4 as since they are longer I would have to open the garage door to walk around it to obtain access to storage cupboards along the side.
With the EXY though I can take the towbar toungue out which should be roughly the same protusion as a nudge bar and still be right.

After reading the article on "Nissan nudge bar (piece of crap)" and also price differance then I think the ARB might be a better unit and actually protect against slight nudges although the Nissan one looks nicer and tough !! But as my wife says - Looks aren't everything !!!

Cheers

Yes Darryl, if safety and real protection is what you're after, go for the ARB, as the Nissan one is just for looks!

Sorry mate, I have to disagree with you on this one. I might be biased but I actually like the look of the Nissan bar. If you want a bar that will take the full brunt of a roo, then you will need a full frontal replacement bar and they don't make them for the exy yet. Don't worry, Matt and myself are looking. Yeah, the ARB and other brands are just as practical, but some will take away your approach angle due to sitting so low. The Nissan one is a good overall compromise. It doesn't effect your approach angle, it fits most of the spotties on the market and is solidly built. The only downside is the attachment point which screws through the plastic bumper, but this gives extra ridigity over some of the other brands.

As with most of the low rise bars available for the exy, any amount of minor collision will cause damage to you vehicle as well.

Don't worry about the lower chrome bar I have, this is to fit my Hella 181 lights when I move them to accomodate my Hella Rallye 1000's. You can never have too much light.

Back to your original question, the Nissan bar adds under 10cm to the overall length.

Re: ARB / Nissan Nudgebar Measurements

Thanks Brett

Very imformative and great to hear your thoughts on the bar.
I certainly agree that the ARB ones hang lower.
Here's hoping Nissan do a runout sale on the old nudge bars emoticon

Food for thought and will hang off a bit before making a decision.

Cheers

Darryl

Yes Brett and this exactly what we're saying about the factory nudge bar. Looks good only!

We have discussed this before in Noel's review thread and given reasons why we think the factory nudge bar is only good for looks. Please refer to THIS thread.

Being completely hallow in the black plastic sections and completely flush with the bumper, it'll be the perfect recipe for front bumper damage at the slightest hit and/or collision!

Not necessarily. You can have other aftermarket nudge bars (ECB, X-TRAK) which can take the full brunt of a roo and even save you from a nose dive with no damage to the bumper at all emoticon

Not sure what you and Matt are looking for, but the full frontal bull bar is already available and I have already seen the full bumper replacement bar for the exy in Cairns (yack I must add and looked larger than the exy itself LOL).

P.S. Since I tried to steer this discussion into one of the existing threads and obviously failed to get the message across, I will be moving this thread to the INT/EXT Accessories forum section soon.
