Queensland trip #10

Thanks everyone who came along on the day, it was good to meet some new Xtrail owners in the Brissy and surrounding areas.

I did not get many pictures unfortunately, so feel free to add yours if you got any. I hope I did a good job of leading, Vicky was sensational as navigator and we only got confused once but ended up in the right place anyway! The rain certainly made for some fun, with some slips and slides here and there but once again the cars handled it like a trooper.

The report:

We met at Caboolture, 6 Xtrail and one KIA Sportage.

Image Image

A 4 Story white building marked as the starting point for the trip, 5 Exy's waiting for Tony and his mate in the KIA to top up with fuel.

Image

First part of the trip was mostly smooth going forestry roads but with plenty of rain the week before, slippery as all get up. Many a time, I planted the foot just a little too hard (on purpose I suspect) and fishtrailed it.

Image

Stopped for morning tea at a nice spot, Glass House Mountains Lookout.

Image Image Image Image

Then we set off again and found the good stuff. A creek crossing and a waterhole that looked far too deep for us, in fact as we arrived a Jeep Wrangler had just been pulled out.

Image

Stefan went for a drive to see if there was another way around it and we got a call on the radio he was in a hole. Lucky he was only a couple of hundred meters away. Off we trotted, all the men of course and with a little shoving and grunting, managed to heave ho him out and we made our way back to the waterhole to ponder our prospects.

Image Image

There was a detour around the waterhole that after Tony inspected came up trumps and we found that it wasn't too deep. The hardest part was getting past the bog hole to get to it. We picked our track and set off and managed to get to the water with lots of slipping and sliding but managed to avoid the hole that would later prove too deep for the KIA. After navigating the deep hole at the start of the water it was smooth sailing until we got back on the mud, more slipping and sliding but managed to get out.

Image Image Image

A little confusion with directions in the book but with help from Jeff and the trusty referex we then had smooth driving to the lunch meeting point, Matthew Flinders resting point. Mike left us at this point, I hope the Lorraine's back is feeling better now.

Image Image Image Image

The last of the day was more forestry trails up to Coochin creek camping area and the end of the trip. We all went our way, muddier and dirtier than I've ever seen my car. It was a great day.

Two hours to clean the car today and I don't think I got all of the mud out of the fenders and under the side steps but it was worth it!

Thanks guys and look forward to the next run!

(images update today to clickable thumbnails, sorry guys)

Here are some videos from the trip, only three I'm afraid.

Hey Mike, looks like you sorted out Image Shack, well done and great pics too.

I think we all had a ball that's for sure and I think Tony will have some more videos coming soon that are better than mine.

With Video 1, Justin's rig, if I had of turned the camera on 30 seconds earlier at the start of the run you would have seen it buck like a bull and rear up on it's front two wheels and jump sideways 4 feet when he hit the mud and holesemoticon , now that was funny as all get upemoticon. I only hope Tony got that one!

Re: Queensland trip #10

Hi Guys, slight delay with the video due to some technical difficulties.

Jalal - I saw that little red door light on the dash and thought - it'll be ok then had an image of a wet muddy interior so I hung my head, got out and closed the boot DOH!! emoticon
