Re: New Forum Background Image

That is exactly the reason for the change/update Jamie.

I am also trying to make our forum a bit more appealing and eye-catching for the new comers when the new shape exy is released here in Australia, so they don't feel like this forum is only evolving around the current shape.

In saying this, I agree to some degree with Roger and Kev that it has made viewing the topics and the main page of the forum a bit untidy and forces the viewer to scroll down a lot to see the content. I will fix that soon.

Our forum has been nominated as an excellent board, that doesn't mean we should stop improving it if we can emoticon

Re: New Forum Background Image

I like it better than plain old black - on mobile broadband (iBu...) it loads up quick enough (until I'm throttled from 1mb/sec down to 32kb/sec) and using Safari it displays correctly as well.

Roger/Kev, as excellent as the forum is, if things don't change they tend to go stale and boring.

Changing occasionally gives the forum a 'Just Refreshed' look. Sparkles it up some for those of us that are online everyday, and those who occasionally pop in, well it's like looking up a whole new page on a website. emoticon

Yo Jamie:

To each his own.

I've been on this forum for a long time and "stale & boring" are not words that would have ever describe this forum (IMO).

It may be just a matter of "form" over "function" - or likes and dislikes.

The most major change to this forum (again IMHO) was the move to "categorize" the various topics which I think is absolutely fantastic....it's the only forum that I participate in that has done this.

I have long since come to the conclusion that there is not a whole lot of point in my reading about the "events & meet-ups" that I cannot participate in...however, I do occasionally drop in there to see how much fun you guys are having.

Another good thing about "discussion" forums is that they allow for differing opinions to be expressed.

I too am on the forum "almost" every day and frankly find it "comfortable" to find things where they were "yesterday"...enables me to navigate more quickly.

The addition of the picture caused me to have to "scroll" down every time I moved from one topic to the other and IMO was a "time waster"..time better spent reading yours and others more valuable input.

Seems that Jalal has already "adjusted" that scrolling aspect - so, we're on the road to pleasing "most of the people most of the time"...

Cheers

Re: New Forum Background Image

Roger,

I said at the start of this thread that I welcome ALL of your opinions and views and will do everything I can to please the majority and this is exactly what am doing and what you see now is not the finished product...yet

Having said that, I know it takes a little while to get used to new things, especially new layouts, but I will try to implement this change without impacting on any of the existing features, so the only change will be swapping the old black background with a new background image....again, I will do this after carefully considering each one of your views and opinions.

Re: New Forum Background Image

OK Guys,

This is as close to the final product as it can get.

Everything has been tweaked to accommodate the background image without impacting any other function and we have also included 2 new buttons at the top providing a direct link to the Main Site and the Members Gallery pages.

Let us know what you think.

Re: New Forum Background Image

Hey Roger,

You're a 100% correct and all your points are valid, to each his own... It's like the saying, 'you say tomato and I say tomato (hard to get the meaning of that with just words and no sound) but it's like the Canadians say ZED and the Americans say ZEE, it's what you get taught or get used to.

Personally myself I like change occasionally, but would find it very uncomfortable if every time I logged in I was having to search everywhere for what I wanted as well but the occasional change does me good.emoticon

It is because we are so different that makes it so hard to please everyone and trust me, I would not like to be in Jalal's and Noel's shoes trying to juggle that with the forum members likes and dislikes. I have enough trouble trying to please my own family members (4) emoticon let alone 500-600 board members.

That said, I like the final layout Jalal. The addition of the buttons on top is interesting. I haven't been in the members section for awhile so it was good to see the members scrolling through.

Great job guys. emoticon

That is yet another reason for the change and update because I was getting the feeling that the many features (including the Members Gallery) of our Main Site (not the forum) are not being explored the way they should be and some members don't even know it exists emoticon

Re: New Forum Background Image

Hi Guys,

I have addressed most of your concerns and we tweaked the settings of the forum layout to cause no change to the previously used parameters, so in effect instead of a black background colour you used to see, we now have a photo of an exy at the top section of the forum in the background.

This is the final version of it and I would like you to use the forum for a while with this new background in place and then you can give us your feedback after getting used to it.

Personally, I think it looks awesome and gives our forum a new and fresh look, but as I said, I am open to suggestions and that is exactly how we can improve further.

Jalal -

Take it from an older lurker, mate this site is excellent. The effort and work that you, Noel and others have put into this site are worthy of a big pat on the back.

I am a member of 'quiet a few' other vehicle related and other specialty forums and this is the easiest one to find your way around and also very appealing to the eye.

Again, congrats to the Admin Team.
