Re: FLARING AT IDLE 1700-2500 RPM.
Shane,
If the Lambda reading is more than 1, it suggests that there is a problem with the catalytic converter or the ECU giving the wrong readings.
As your exy is a 2002 model it should have had the catalytic converter recall carried out by the dealer some time ago.
Has this recall been carried out and if you bought your exy second-hand, was it recorded in the service book as done?

Re: FLARING AT IDLE 1700-2500 RPM.
Hi Burcho,
You say it flares about 1 minute after starting from cold.
Does it die down to a normal idle after a few minutes ?
Does it flare after every start or does it idle normally when restarted after driving for a while ?
Are you sure what you are experiencing is not the normal warmup function ?

Re: FLARING AT IDLE 1700-2500 RPM.
Have a look at the recalls history thread HERE and check your VIN against all of the recalls for the affected xtrails.
If your exy is affected by any of them, you need to call Nissan Australia to find out if your car had the recall done (sine this information was not given to you by the previous owner)
The cat. converter is part of the manifold, to look at it, the manifold needs to be removed from the engine to check for damage.
After such high number of Kms, there is a high chance your cat. converter started flaking as it is has ceramic core.

Re: FLARING AT IDLE 1700-2500 RPM.
I would have also suggested that throttle position got messed-up somehow and requires the idle re-learn, but since you have said it's been with them for 1 month, am pretty sure they have already tried that and didn't work.

Re: FLARING AT IDLE 1700-2500 RPM.
Maybe your throttle body is dirty and needs a clean.
Have it looked at then if it is dirty, have it cleaned and the idle relearn done to reset the idle speed.
