Re: Switch to turn OFF the ABS

I see no reason for flaming anyone, as it is quite true!

The safety features of an xtrail have not been designed to be disabled so you can get out of situations you're not meant to have the car in. Know the limitations of the car and what it is capable before venturing out and getting into trouble.

Am afraid Nissan has not stated anywhere that pulling-out fuses is a solution to improve the off-road ability of an xtrail and you'll be asking for trouble should this cause further damage to the car or the passengers.

Re: Switch to turn OFF the ABS

note to OP.... the handbrake runs without abs emoticon

Abs sucks on gravel, but with modern vehicles having all modules feeding information to each other and the ecu, I wouldn't think pulling fuses is a solution.

Re: Switch to turn OFF the ABS

Not that I want to jump in the big argument but pulling the K (40A) fuse from the engine bay worked like a charm to kill the ABS without loosing the 4x4 modes. I'll be installing a switch in the dash sometimes soon to be able to kill it whenever I need to run without ABS, I might post pics as well if some other people want to take the "risk" to do it as well.

I've also been doing the same thing to my S14 which has ABS on it, I bypassed the actuator fuse with a switch cause it was annoying when drifting. Worked like a charm for 3 years now.

I find that hard to believe as the xtrail ABS is directly linked to the 4x4 mode, so pulling the ABS fuse will surely disable the 4WD mode.

How did you know that your 4WD mode was still working?

It will also kill the downhill assist on the T31 as it uses the ABS module to drive it.

Re: Switch to turn OFF the ABS

I think it can be done.

When I ran a grinder through the engine and ECU loom in the front left fender, I ended up with no ABS and functioning 4x4 mode. I drove like this for 7 days...no ABS, 4x4 worked.

I didnt investigate this, just re-soldered everything, howver I thnk it is do-able.

Same question applies to you Dave. How did you know you had a functioning 4x4 mode?

Re: Switch to turn OFF the ABS

The ABS, while being controlled by the logic in the 4WD/ABS module, is actuated by a separate motorised actuator.
Image
The 4WD/ABS module gets its power separately from the ABS actuator.
Image
So while pulling the ABS actuator fuse K will disable the ABS, the controller will still be powered by the module fuses 37 & 8.

Re: Switch to turn OFF the ABS

I planted it on a steep road in 2 wheel drive and had wheel spin, then turned the switch on and planted it and had none. (4WD light activated..ABS light still on)_

Locked it up, on a normal road surface and gravel, and no ABS chatter.
