Loose roof rail end cap

Hi Folks. Not sure if this is the place to ask it but here goes.

The end caps on the roof rails (along the roof) are getting looser. Does anyone know how to tighten them?

Regards
Bluey.

Re: Loose roof rail end cap

Hi Bluey,

I am assuming you have an ST without the spoiler, in which case the end caps haven't got loose, this is just the way they're from the factory and they're only being held in place by one bolt going through the roof.

They can not be tightened more than that, as these end caps are meant to be replaced with the spoiler fitting when it is in place.

If they're annoying you, I suggest you get a double-sided weather strip foam and stick it under these end caps along the edges. That is what I have done before fitting a spoiler...and then the hyper rails.

Yes you're right I have the st without spoiler but the end caps can now be lifted up about 1cm, which is much more than before.

How do you get to the bolt, as I havent noticed it. I dont drive it normally so I only get to look for bolts etc when the wife has the car at home.

OK mate, here is the bad news emoticon

Sine you can lift them up by that much, they have snapped and already broken. They're only held in place by a small plastic base which the bolt catches.

To get to that bolt you gonna have to take the roof lining as well as all of the plastic trims off and it is a major job to do.

I snapped one of these end caps when I was fitting a spoiler and it was much easier to glue it in place rather than go through the trouble of taking the roof lining off.

Thanks jalal.

Its funny both should go at the same time though. It should be covered by warranty though shouldnt it?

Re: Loose roof rail end cap

They could be easily broken at any car wash as I quite often see the guys at the car wash place grab these end caps to lift themselves up to climb the tyre so they can dry the roof.

I don't fancy your chances in terms of warranty but it is worth a try anyway.

Yeah Matt, better not to as the bolt/nut attachement of the spoiler is not that strong at all.
