posticon New Gear Shift

Just arrived from Japan is my new GT gear shifter. Much better looking than the old "T" bar shifter.

I'll add photos once it's fitted. emoticon

Re: New Gear Shift

Shifter in, looking good. Photos will be up on the weekend!

The change over was really easy and only took about 45 minutes. The longest part of the process was removing all the trim to get to the shifter plate.

The wiring is a bit different as well, but all I did was swap over the wiring from my old shifter to the new one.

The change is purely cosmetic, but it's nice to have something a bit different (read special).
The actual change is exactly the same, just a nicer looking gear knob. All up cost $150 shipped.

Re: New Gear Shift

Andrew,

Is your exy an AUTO? cause if it is, I would really love to see how you managed to remove the factory shifter.

I have tried doing that before and I have scored a really nice shifter that had the over-drive button as well but me and an auto electrician just couldn't work-out how the shifter stick can be removed, as it all looked like one plastic piece going directly to the transmission.

Even the Nissan dealer had no idea how to remove it.

Re: New Gear Shift

basically it is just plug and play...but practicly..its much harder than that...

u have to get the whole console off under the shift knob to get the O/D wire conector and the Release-Lock Pin 8(

to take of the console under the shift knob:
ull fine couple screws at the back of the console for the 1st step
after that u have to take off the consoles beside the A/C panels to get other screws

after u finish with the console..u will see the O/D conector (its hard to see because it is in deep inside uder the shift knob stick T.T)
release the O/D conector
release the lock pin to take the shiftknob stick off
after that...

get the conector done and put the cable inside the new stick..it comes in a package with the new S.K (i dont use this stick..so i just use the S.K..i like this look emoticon the S.K is just rite on the console)
after that get the S.K and the stick together..

and finally put everythin back to normal ^^

ohh well i try my best to explain it step by step LOL but its really hard LOL

anyway..im very wellcome for questions emoticon

Re: New Gear Shift

Thanks Alan, the reason I ask is because I know how hard it is to do this mod.

I have imported exactly the same gear stick for my AUTO transmission and myself as well as a car electrician spent 3 hours dismantling everything and we just couldn't work out how the factory gear stick can be released from its place. Everything is plastic over there and seems to come in piece, so we gave up and I sold this gear stick, although I really wanted to have it.

So, if you show me (with photos if possible) how did you managed to remove the factory stick from its place and replace with the one supplied in the kit, it will be very helpful to me and others who want to do the same.

So nope, I can't say it is just "plug & play" far from it emoticon

Re: New Gear Shift

Yes that’s true jalal…I had exactly the same problem like yours

1st have to unscrew your S.K (sorry I forgot to tell) its located at the front of the S.K itself…
2nd u have to push the Release-Lock pin while u removing the S.K stick from the console
(its located inside de console close to the stick)

Even u do so…its still very hard to take it off...but at that time I was like ‘arghhhhhhhhh its been a whole day and u still not moving at all even a lil bit!!!’ LOL
So I pull it very hard just like when u want to tear down your X-Trail LOL (I know we don’t do that…its very hard to do it specially for X-Trail lovers like us LOL)
And wallaa….finally..

That’s why I really enjoy my S.K now based on that experience LOL ohh and also with the price ^^

I don’t have the pict off the process...even I didn’t have a thinking to get some picts at that time…it was mess up LOL
But ill get the pict of my old S.K ..may bee it will give u some ideas…
Rite away after I get home tonite jalal
