It depends on what size tyre the Escape uses.
As you know, the price varies greatly between one size and the other.

Hi Geoff,
I have spent considerable time researching tyre replacements for the xtrail. I also consulted a Bob Jane dealer on these Maxxis, and found both the All terrain and H/W exceeded diameter limits.
Refer to tyre replacement thread for a broad range, and double check that OD is within limits as slight variations occur between brands. As a guide expect to pay from $160-$250 depending on brand.

The "cheap and dodgy" sounds good considering the price you can get them for.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter how much you spend on your tyres, it's value for money that matters 
Even if you get over 40,000kms with the cheap set, your well ahead over someone that has chosen an expensive tyre with double the expected tyre life.
There will be less wheel alignments, choosing an road tyre over an all-terrain also means better fuel consumption, etc, etc
Am interested to see how these handle for you mate.... The main thing will be the handling in the wet...

I am also getting a set of the Maxxis MA-P1 next week to go on my recently acquired 16" alloys.
These are a highway type tyre & at $169 each they fit my current financial situation.
Will report next week on how they feel.
I also considered the MA-S1 (at the same price) which is a directional tyre more for the SUVs/AWDs, but did not like the look of the pattern so went for the more conventional style of the MA-P1.
