Re: Sydney meet - attempt 2

Sounds like a good plan, Brett.

And Jalal can't comment about me not keeping promises because I can't remember the last Sydney/NSW meet-up (actually I can - and Jalal wasn't there because he didn't want to take his 18inch wheels onto the sand emoticon ).

Re: Sydney meet - attempt 2

By accident, we visited Weir reserve this Saturday morning, looking for a place for our fox “terror” X to have a walk. Except for the Naval Cadet Parade and two people walking their dogs, it was deserted.

It was as Brett described and has a decent public loo. emoticon

Not sure what else is available in the area. It started to rain and we left for home.

Re: Sydney meet - attempt 2

Brett (and others following this thread.)

Access is off the Great Western Highway, under the railway bridge. A large Brown sign "Weir Park" marks the turnoff.

Here is some more info with some added research.

The park has a wedding garden at the northern end and the rowing club and Naval Reserves headquarters at the southern end.

The wedding garden could be a problem. My Father-in Law drives wedding cars notices that outdoor weddings tend to be late spring/summer affairs, however ours was in a public wedding garden in July! There are two car parks (60+ Spaces).

Penrith Council charge for the use of the wedding garden, below are their details.
__________________________________________
Located on the banks of the Nepean River overlooking the weir. Flat surface, car parking nearby and minimal shelter. Seating for 25-30 people. Toilets nearby. Booking compulsory. Japanese Pavilion Fee: $120 per hour $20 deposit gate key. Gazebo: $120 per hour. $20 deposit gate key. Penrith City Council Parks and Gardens 02 4732 7559
__________________________________________

At the Southern end, there is some parking near the Rowing club and the Naval Reserves. There is plenty of parking along the side of the roads.

Naval Reserves do their stuff on Saturday Mornings.
Not sure about the Rowing Club.

There are two other possibilities;
Regatta Park, River Road, on the western bank of the Nepean River,

and

Tench Avenue, on the southern bank next to the M4 Bridge.

According to the map the both have BBQ, Play Park equipment, toilets and Parking.

Regards,

Paul

Re: Sydney meet - attempt 2

There is a park in the Blue Mountains (I think it's between Linden and Woodford, trying to find it in whereis.com but having trouble as I don't know the name of it). I don't know what the name of it is or what facilities it has but I know it's accessible from the left side of the road heading towards Sydney.

I had a look in Google Earth and it's the one I was thinking of. Co-ord's are:

33 43 34.95 South
150 29 25.88 East

Re: Sydney meet - attempt 2

On Sunday I saw a subaru forester club or just a freakish coincidence that around twenty foresters went past in the opposite direction. This got me thinking that if we do have this day out we could have a meet up location and drive to the actual BBQ/park area because even though they were foresters it was very impressive
