Re: Oil Catch Cans

Well, roughly 2 weeks of light/ mild operation has yielded about 15ml of oil. Better here than in the intake manifold emoticon
Think I will just keep a spare filter, and swap a clean one in, while the other one is being washed and dried.

Re: Oil Catch Cans

Not a bad result from a little filter.
Interestong to see how much it would collect under hard or frequent driving.

Re: Oil Catch Cans

Sorry. Have read a lot of this thread but for the sake of the late comers, like myself, can we please have a summary.

1/ Overall, is this mod worth doing?

2/ The benefits it provides (fuel economy, increase in power, engine longevity)

3/ Most recommended Catch Can

4/ Pre-install recommendations (inlet manifold cleaner for pre-existing crap etc)

Re: Oil Catch Cans

Hi Munners,

1. Yes.
2. Engine longevity and less loss of power with age as the engine is not burning crap.
3. A catch can with condensing stainless fibre inside, or a straight can modified with this fibre inserted. You can check out my premade one and Jalal's modified one as suggested by one of our overseas members.
4. Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner sprayed onto a rag and to clean the manifold after taking off the throttle body and then sprayed over the inside of the throttle body to clean the oil off it.

As I live in the same area as you I have emailed my mobile number to you so we can get together and discuss in-depth and let you see mine installed if you wish.

Re: Oil Catch Cans

P.S. Are catch-cans 'illegal' in regards to Road Worthy Certificates and Insurance?

Re: Oil Catch Cans

Nope, catch cans have nothing to do with insurance and manufacturers warranties, as you are not changing anything in the design of the engine, rather you're making sure your engine will last longer without all this crap being built-up inside it over the years.

Re:

Cleaned my oil catch can today and extracted about 250ml worth of oil from there!! Over 2 years worth of driving, it was almost full.

I reckon the T31 guys should really consider this mod to keep their engine in good shape.
