Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

I have tackled a few tracks before with most having a solid base but may have a few shallow rough patches, haven't taken anywhere which would require low range gearing as Exy might run away on steep slopes.

Others may have had little or no experience before. A lot depends on the gradiants and conditions, as we are not set up for proper recoveries, is best to use maps as a guide.

I have the Rooftop's Toolangi - Black Range Map which shows the area in detail.

Cheers

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Guys ,
If we fall short of numbers for the Toolangi trip, a friend of mine would not hesitate to join us. Only problem is he drives a Pajero, noticed other trips have included a few other than Exy's.

Tell me your thoughts on this as i won't ask him unless everyone is happy. Still hope more Exy's join us on this expedition!!!

Cheers,

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Sounds fair to me Anthony.
We should all get some experience in recovering vehicles and that's not likely to happen with just EXys on a trip.
I'll make up some 'Pajero Recovery Vehicle' decals for the rest of us to wear on the day. JJ
Gonna be a good learning experience day.

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

I'll give it to the end of next week and see others ideas before i contact my mate. myself well not planning to do any recoveries (never done one), if tracks are wet maybe have to be a bit careful what we do, don't want to be sliding around on the Toyo's.

I haven't been driving with my Pajero mate yet as have only known him a short time. Tague may have had a look over the weekend so he may be able to provide so info on the area.

Perhaps we can print out some of Jalal's business cards and stick them on the Exy's windscreens at Knox City, (spread the word).
His workload for the online shop would double.

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Hey chaps, who's gonna be going on the little drive ?
The wife keeps asking me about it. I think she wants to bounce of a bit of the Easter extravagances with some bush bashin.
Has anyone done anymore runs in the area to pick a route ?

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Haven't managed to contact my mate with the Pajero yet as he is away on business, will try in a couple of days.
In the meantime hopefully a few more Exy's can join us for the 15th of April.

So far Lance and myself are on the list, if any others want to be part of the Tollangi trip let us know by about the 10th of April so we can make meet up arrangements etc.

Cheers,

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Hope you guys have a great day - my free weekends are very limited and neither the 15th nor the 29th would be a goer. If someone was wanting to go check out tracks on a week day to report back I can often manage that, though.

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Spoke with my mate Matt (Pajero) and he is keen to come along and check out Toolangi with the rest of us Ezy's.

He too lives within the Wantirna area so driving times to the trip area will be the same.
A couple of starting points for the day :

(1) Melba Hwy and Marginal road (longer drive to Murrindindi river area)
(2) Melba Hwy and Two hills road (joins up with Marginal road furhter along)

Choice depends how many km's we feel like to go around many curvy bends.

No gas barbecues here so a picnic lunch is the go for us.

Anthony

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

The choice is yours Anthony. Mileage is no concern with us.
I suggest rather than try to convoy all the way to the Toolangi area, that we meet up a bit closer to the tracks, maybe Yarra Glen, just over the bridge into the town.
Picnic sounds fine.
What time are you figuring on ?

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Fellas it is a good idea to have a bigger 4WD with the Exys on a trip, as you never know when you might strike a bit of trouble & it is handy to have a bigger, more capable 4WD to get you out of a tricky situation.
We are in an AWD club here in SA & have all sorts of 4WDs come along on our day trips. Even some people with the bigger 4WDs dont want to get too extreme. But saying that, on a sand weekend last year some of the bigger ones got stuck because they were too heavy & the lighter Exys /Rav4s etc just sailed over the top of the dunes.
