Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Hi Guys,
Thought it would be great if we could fit a day trip in before winter sets in. As most of us live in the east we are relatively close to alot of scenic areas.
Some dates which i have available after checking the calander are : Sun 15th April, Sat or Sun 28-29th April, Sat 12th May (13th is mothers day), and Sat or Sun 19-20th May.
In the next couple of days i will study my maps again and provide a description of a few possible locations.
Probably a good idea to stick to something easy for the first trip.

In that case i'll take the exy and a recovery vehicle (patrol with winch) to toolangi state forest in the next couple and plan some tracks to go DOWN, UP, SIDEWAYS and UPSIDE DOWN... emoticon
If I can't make it on the day i'll still post the tracks that we find to be good.

Hi fellow Exy's,
           Some trip suggestions are:

(1) Toolangi Forrest (Murrindindi Reserve)

Start at Healesville and turn left at Maroondah Hwy into Myers Creek Rd. Travel along until Sylvia creek rd which passes Wirrawilla rain forrest walk (have a look).

Continue onto Mt Tanglefoot car park (maybe another stroll), and join up to Murrinindi Rd continuing along beside river. Can head back down via Marginal, Horseyard creek and Kalatha rd's back to Mt Tanglefoot intersection.
Round trip from Healesville approx 65km on Good 2wd roads.

(2)Lady Talbot Drive

Start at Marysville and head towards Lake Mount. Signed left turn, first 16km to Beeches rainforrest walk is Good 2wd, remaining 30km approx to main road via Mt Margaret rd is 2wd in dry conditions (few puddles ?) Few scenic stops on way.
Round trip from Marysville Approx 60km.

This trip is a little further out of town via black spur. Marysville about 1.5 hours from Ringwood/Wantirna.

(3)Yarra State Forrest

Start at Powelltown which is off the Warburton Hwy and along P'town-Noojee Rd. Head towards Noojee and turn left into Big creek Rd. Follow to starlings gap and continue on, turn right down New Turkey Spur Rd until reach Ada tree picnic area. Take a breather and loop back just outside of Noojee.
Historic trestle bridge is worth a look about 10 mins further on.

Round trip from Powelltown is about 50km along Good 2wd roads.

These are only suggested trips and alternatives are welcome.
Keeping to these main roads should ensure a relaxing drive.

Cheers ,
         Anthony

Toolangi state forrest:
Drive through lilydale to Yarra glen, continue past the kinglake toolangi intersection on your way to glenburn. At the end of the forrest there is powerlines across the road.
At that point there is a driveway/ opening at the end of the forrest. Turn right and there is a whole day of adventures there, starting 10m off the road.

Hi guys,
Toolangi forrest sounds good, will wait to see if others have a preference and maybe take a vote. So far sounds like 2 in for Toolangi.

Hopefully others will join us as any Exy's are invited for a day out in the bush.
So lets get an idea on a day and date for this event. As i posted in the opening link, those dates i am currently available. Let us know over the next week or so and more plans can be made.

Don't miss this opportunity for a fantastic day trip in the great outdoors. emoticon

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Toolangi sounds like the place Anthony. All being well Anne and I will be in it.
Depends on the weekend work roster a bit. As soon as you come up with a date we can try to get our names of the roster and all will be good.

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

So Gents,
Should we try and plan this day trip for April, perhaps we could narrow it down to Sun 15th or 29th April.
Will have my sleak black bashplate fitted by then (not that we intend to bash the exy) it's to dam good to spoil it.
Can't wait to escape the city for a day and head for the sticks. So fellow Exy's jump on board and join in the fun!!! A few more numbers would help create a fantastic Exy photo shoot.

Anthony emoticon

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Sunday 15th suits us just fine mate.
Anne will be working the 29th so that is out for us.
Gonna be a great run, and Anne wants to drive a bit as well. That'll be interesting.

Re: Melbourne 4wd Day Trip

Thinking i'll go check out some trails through toolangi tomorrow.

I'll mark which ones I think we'll all be capable of and post them on here.

Johnsey, i'll grab a map on the way there and post the exact tracks I try.

Probably a good idea to see if any one has had any 4wd experience before, always helps and means some more difficult tracks can be tackled.
I just don't wanna pick a track and we all turn up and some turn away.
Its gotta be a group effort emoticon
