The front grill is easily removable. There are 4 pop out plastic clips on the top of the grill and it simply comes out by lifting it up.
Note that there is a difference in shape and mounting between Series I and Series II grills. I've heard there are very limited range of new grills for series I and a handful of them for Series II although these are pretty pricey.
My suggestion is to just get your existing grill either chrome dipped or professionally painted.

Hi Glen, depending on which Series your exy is, there is an easier solution than chrome dipping
I do have a genuine Series II chrome grill for sale HERE (look at the last post in that page)

That's exactly what he has done. This mesh is also available from any auto store and it is the same we used to do the radiator protection (if you search for it)
