Nissan roof racks - poor finish (any options ?)

Having recently picked up a set of Nissan factory roofracks for about 1/2 price, my delight turned to disapointment when I fitted them and found the mounting to be very poor indeed.
Anyone else noticed the poor quality of the fitment, with a large space left below each of the 'feet'. This may sound picky, but has anyone managed to fix this problem with a simple DIY method.
But, a big thankyou to 'Explorers Xtrail'(Kim) for the bars.

Re: Nissan roof racks - poor finish (any options ?)

Hi Brett,

That is the exact reason I chose the Rhino roof racks over the factory ones for Series I as they cover the base in full (from both sides)

The factory ones leave a huge gap from the inner side of the roof rail which I didn't like at all.

I have seen the factory roof rack on the new xtrails (2006) and it seems they have fixed this issue and the base is fully covered.

Don't think there is a solution to your problem, though.

Thanks. Not really an issue, just cosmetic. The price certainly outweighs the problem. emoticon

Yep, it is just a cosmetic finish indeed and you know how picky I am when it comes to adding those things to my exy no matter how good the price is emoticon

Bargain buy in any case, so just don't look at them and you'll be fine LOL

Matt,
I think yours are the same as Jalal meant when he said the 2006 bars as they would be for a Series 2.

Brett,
I have a Series 1 Nissan set and I also have the same gap.
After fitting a wind deflector to the sunroof recently I noticed there was still a whistling sound and I can only presume this must be coming from the open inside rail gap. I was starting to think Nissan left something off when they installed the bars.
I'm looking into some type of cover and will let you know early new year if I find anything.

That's correct Kev, Series II roof bars don't have this gap and fit perfectly.

Hi guys,

My roof racks fit perfect, no gap at all. I noticed this gap on one of the Exy's on the photo shoot and thought it was funny but didn't go into it too much.

I've had mine off and back on again and still fit flush with the rails and they are genuine Nissan racks.

What is different Jalal & Matt ?

Is there a different rail mount or is the foot which the bar mounts to completely different or is there a cover piece ?
Maybe us poor Series 1 Nissan bar owners might be able to retrofit the different cover / rail mount.

Kev,

From what I have seen the whole foot is different, the series II roof rack actually have a different shape and sit a bit lower than the series I ones.
