Boo Hoo - My Exys Gone To Heaven Today

Sniff, sniff, my Ti-l has gone to heaven this morning.

A clown driving in and out of the traffic in a clapped out, beaten up old Gemini on the M4 decided to play games with a slower driver (not me) in the middle lane and cut in from of them and stood on the brakes. Result ... 5 vehicle accident. My partner was driving the Exy and had to hit the brakes even though there was plenty of room in front. Vehicles started colliding. An older model Camry hit the back of the Exy with such force that it has bent the chassis, twisted the roof and you can't open any of the doors. I am hoping that the insurance company will write it off. The towies believe that they will. The guy in the Camry had to be taken to hospital with broken ribs because he got rear ended by a petrol tanker. It's lucky that there wasn't an explosion because the Camry was running on an LPG tank in the boot. His vehicle was practically turned inside out.

Thankfully, independent eye witnesses saw what this idiot was doing prior to the accident and stopped and gave their details to the police.

I had grown attached to my Exy. Kept it in mint, showroom condition. Just glad that there were no serious injuries and that the mongrel was caught. Sob !!!

9.9 times out of 10;

Bent chassis = write off.

Sorry to hear the news... very glad they got the idiot. Maybe he will get hit up for the entire claims!

But on the bright side.. brand spanking new Exy... or not?

Thanks Naff, no probably won't get another. Just finished the lease on it and paid out the residual and have got myself a new Maxima on a new lease. The dog (that's not the partner, a basset hound) was the privileged one who was being driven around in in. I was keeping it for the weekend jobs, i.e. bring home large goodies from the Bunning’s toyshop etc.

Re: Boo Hoo - My Exys Gone To Heaven Today

Sorry to hear about the bad news. I see this kind of driving almost on a daily basis (what is it with these people?) and I regularly frequent the Idiot Driver Website but unfortunately I don't think the police have the time or resources to bother checking the website, and actual statements need to be made at a police station (although I haven't yet tried calling the Police Assistance Line (131-444) to see if they accept statements over the phone). It wouldn't surprise me if the idiot drivers are the ones that get off without a scratch, and all the other drivers are the ones involved in the accident by trying to make allowances for, or avoid the idiot in the first place. One of my friends owns a very nice Mazda SP23 (which she loves) and she was forced up the gutter by another driver, ruining her wheels and some of the underbody of the car. When she reported it, the insurance company said that without the registration details of the other vehicle, they had to assume she was at fault and there was no other car involved (and basically accusing her of attempting to make a fraudulent claim to get out of paying the excess). She was spewing!

The more people that report these idiots, the less chance they've got of causing accidents and/or injuring/killing people. It feels like the number of idiots is increasing, and there's never going to be a time when there's no idiots on the road, no matter how many get reported.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but it's something I'm passionate about.

sorry to hear about the exy, glad your partner was ok

i spend a fair bit of time on the road and see this sort of driving all the time. If only these people realise that what they are doing could kill inocent people.

Yes, driving is certainly not a pleasurable as it used to be. I drive 200Kms each day, to and from work and even though you stick to the left hand lane, you just shake your head in dismay at what people get up to.

The aggression and selfishness is really getting out of hand and the antics of some of younger generation (read P platers) explains why there is so much carnage on the roads. I just want to be kept out of their equation.

 Rich, to answer your question YES, this site does get checked, but only the extremely dangerous ones are acted upon. As for PAL, no they wont take any statements for traffic matters, but this may change soon. Even if someone attends the station and gives a statement setting out a driving complaint, the investigating police then have to place a form-of-demand upon the driver (by law the car owner MUST know who has control of their car at all times) to identify the driver. If they refuse (or cannot nominated someone), they are breached for 'fail to comply', which is a slap on the wrist. The insurance company can't act upon that person as the nominated cause of the accident, so after many hours or fruitless work, the poor victim of the original accident is no better off.

  Again, we are let down by the system and red tape.
