Expressions of interest - Queensland Tag-A-Long Tour

O.K guys, you asked for it, now here it is.

After discussions with (Marian & Bob) at Brisbane Hinterland 4wd Tours, they have agreed to put together a two day tag-a-long tour for the X-Trail forum members. This tour is specially designed with the X-Trail in mind but that’s not to say that we won’t be challenged with some tracks that will test the skills of the driver and the limitations of the cars. This weekend has organised especially for the X-Trail forum members.

This is their spiel about the regular trek; ours will be somewhat different as the second day of this one is designated hard with a need for low range and high clearance.

During the mid eighteen hundreds Australia saw many gold strikes, some that turned to rushes and most of these are well documented and the stories associated with them are well known, places as wide spread as The western Australian fields, Ballarat, the central mountain region of NSW to the Palmer river in north QLD. There is however one area that experienced a major influx of Miners around 1858 that remains to this day virtually forgotten even though gold was mined here for fifty years. The northern region of NSW from Armidale to the QLD border was the setting for many fortunes won and lost. This tour covers in just two days a major slice of this region. Come with us and explore an area that once boasted at least five town ships. The population of these places now defunct was in the thousands.

For other Tag-A-long tours and training courses in and around the area, check out his website here

We are a registered business & a licensed commercial operator in 4 states. We are required to hold $10 000 000 liability cover, however vehicles must be covered by comprehensive vehicle insurance & it is suggested owners check with their insurance company re: off road usage. All participants are required to sign a standard waiver which includes terms & conditions.

The cost of this tour

$210 per vehicle for 2 people
Extra Adults $25 (normally $50) Children up to the age of 14 are $10 each (normally $25). (Toddlers are free)

They have a property that they use for o/nite stops that has all facilities. Flush toilets, hot showers kitchen etc & includes a couple of pleasant walks that you can do before dinner.
Also included is Saturday night barbeque and all & fees & permits.

What you would need to bring

You would need just a small tent & sleeping gear as well as Sunday breakfast & two lunches and sufficient water.

Minimum and maximum numbers

We would need to get a minimum of 5 cars to make this viable and a maximum of 10 cars will be the absolute limit.

The 4wd benefits of this tour

This is a chance to test your skills – we already know the cars can handle it.
A chance to enhance your skills and learn from a professional 4wd instructor and gain confidence in your ability
A skilled pilot who is versed in all aspect of the area and the tracks that we will traverse
A dedicated recovery vehicle should the need arise.

The social benefits of this tour

A chance to get out in the sun and fresh air and dusty roads
A chance to get to know other X-Trailers, chat, have a drink and toast some marshmallows over the fire.
A chance to see tracks and scenery that you would otherwise not be able to see as most of the drive is conducted on private property with exclusive access to Brisbane Hinterland 4wd Tours.
A chance for the kids and us to see some of this beautiful countryside of ours, and the list goes on……………

The weekend that has been set aside for our tour is February 10/11th 2007.

Final number confirmation and money paid by January 10th 2007

I will be the contact for this expedition so please register your interest and join me for this exciting weekend

Excellent Des, I will get full details in early January but looks as though the start point is going to be Stanthorpe.

We will drive up on Friday and stay somewhere for the night, it will make it easier for the kids

3 definites, we need at least 2 more to make it a go, hands up any more takers???? emoticon

Jamie,
I must have missed something, but where is it being staged. I will let you know my availability a little later, when rosters get back to me. Sound interesting and a good chance to catch up.

Re: Expressions of interest - Queensland Tag-A-Long Tour

Brett,

At this point in time the start point is at Stanthorpe, but may change depending on access points because it starts from private property but both areas will be around 2.5 hours west of Brisbane.

This is about 9.5 hours up the New England HWY from Orange, just near the border of QLD/NSW

Happy to see you come along if your up this way, it should be 2 days of good off roading with an experienced guide and 4wd expert. In fact, happy to see any Xxy driver if they are up (or down) this way, only limited to 10 max so plenty of spaces left.
