seat belt tensioner

Hi all,
I'm having troubles with the drivers seat belt in that it wont rectract automaticly. I have to sort of give it a helping hand.
Didn't happen to notice anything in the DIY section for this. Anyone got any ideas of how to solve the problem, or is anyone having the same troubles??
Any advice would be great!!!

Re: seat belt tensioner

First suggestion which comes to mind is to fully extend the belt to make sure a part of the belt has not been twisted inside the pillar or onto the take-up reel.

Re: seat belt tensioner

If the seatbelt webbing gets wet, it will have trouble rewinding itself. Happens in my work Falcon every time it rains because of a leak at the top of the B pillar (due to the roofracks) which was "fixed" by a recall, however the "fix" was a little bit of "flashtack" to cover over a hole, and made no difference at all!

You may want to check for leaks? You shouldn't have too much trouble removing the trim, but you'll need to remove part of the rubber seal for the front and back doors that goes around the front and back of the B pillar.

Another cause could be a faulty winding mechanism or spring, which I would expect should be fixed under warranty.

The only other thing I can think of has already been mentioned - twisting of the webbing - either behind the trim panel or onto the winding spool itself.

Let us know how you go.

Re: seat belt tensioner

My exy's the same on the driver's side. I asked for it to be looked at a service about six months ago, I suspect they just fully extracted it and wiped it down with something (hopefully not weakening the webbing). Alas, it didn't last long - I'll be pressing for a permanent fix before my warranty expires in December.

Post back here if you resolve the problem...

Rgds,
Ben
