Re: Queensland Photo Shoot
Calling all Queensland X-Trail owners
O.K guys, with the absence of any real suggestions for locations (except for the one supplied by Scotty) for the Queensland Photo Session I have scouted around a number of places in and around Brisbane and have come up with a day trip that will give us plenty of opportunities for some great scenery photos.
I have put together a full itinerary for the day trip, including rendezvous points, times for the trip and points of interest that I believe will offer diversity and variety – see below.
As far as dates, I propose we hold the inaugural Queensland Photo Shoot on Sunday 19th November. If it is rainy and overcast and just generally a horrible day, then I suggest we can make the back up date Sunday 26th November.
Itinerary – Queensland Photo Shoot
Rendezvous point number 1 Shell service centre – Gateway motorway Nudgee
Top up with fuel, ice, munchies and drinks for the day if needed. Car wash available if needed.
Depart Shell Nudgee at 8.30 sharp.
Travel along gateway motorway, onto the Bruce highway and then onto Glasshouse mountains drive to next rendezvous point.
Rendezvous point number 2 Australia zoo
This is a chance for anyone who may wish, to pay respects to the Wildlife Warrior – Steve Irwin.
First photo shoot if possible in front of the zoo main gates, if not alongside the main road.
Photo shoot backdrop Zoo or bushland setting
Depart Australia Zoo at 10am sharp
Travel along Glasshouse mountains road, into Landsborough, on through to Maleny to next rendezvous point.
Rendezvous point number 3 Mary Cairncross park
This is a chance to stretch legs, toilet stop. Mary Cairncross Park offers a 2.1klm (easy) bushwalk where you will see some fantastic native flora and fauna such as the strangler fig and maybe an echidna, café and souvenirs. You may even get to see some unusual uses for snatch straps.
The brown patch is an echidna Strapping up old vines
We will stop here for an hour for a cleansing light ale (generously provided by the Australian Xtrail Forum Administrators, thanks Jalal) and allow anyone to do the bush walk if they want to.
Second photo shoot in and around the park.
Photo shoot Backdrop Glasshouse mountains or parkland setting
Depart Mary Cairncross Park at 11:30 sharp
Travel through Maleny, onto Reesville road and up to Howell Knob Lookout.
Looking south Looking north
Main photo shoot
Photo shoot backdrop Glasshouse Mountains (south) and Sunshine Coast (north)
Depart Howell Knob Lookout 12:30 – 12:45 (flexible)
Travel to Maleny for lunch break. Free time for lunch and tourist activities. Maleny pub offers great meals (barramundi and chips are fantastic) Here is a view of their deck.
Maleny bakery makes great pies, there’s a park in town for anyone who wants a picnic and a whole variety of stores to check out.
Rendezvous point number 4 Tesch Park, Coral St Maleny
Depart Tesch Park at 2pm sharp
Travel along Teale Street to Lake Baroon

Lake Baroon has picnic areas, swimming, boat hire and a kiosk. We can finish the beers provided (appoint a designated driver if needed), have a swim, an ice cream, get out on the lake in a boat or paddle bike and enjoy the sunshine.
Last photo shoot of the day
Photo shoot backdrop Lake Baroon – water setting
Depart Lake Baroon whenever you want. For those interested, Maleny Mountain Winery (The big barrel) is about 2 km after Mary Cairncross Park on the way back.

Please register your interest for this fantastic day out by adding your name to the list below and cut and paste into a new post.
Please specify what rendezvous point you will join us as we will leave on time where possible but we don’t want to leave you stranded, if we know you are coming, we will wait.
Looking forward to a fantastic day
