Re: NSW and ACT Easter '06 trip

Sorry John, I misunderstood your question it seems.

I thought you already clicked on the link I posted in my 2nd post from the top above, giving details of the destination and in there you will also find the accommodation alternatives to camping.

I'm yet to get the full details of this trip from Sutherland Off-Road (Tony) and as soon as I do, I will make the trip agenda and all options much clearer.

I ran it by Clare yesterday and didn't get any negative feedback - so long as it's not going to cost an arm and a leg (which I doubt it would) then we should be there!

Will need to know exact dates to see if we need to book any time off work...

I'm hopefull that full details will be provided by early next week, when Sutherland Off-Road sends me full details.

And, nope, it's not gonna cost and arm and a leg at all, so don't worry in this regard emoticon

Re: NSW and ACT Easter '06 trip

Tentatively count me in... haven't been camping before and would love to tag along. Depends what I'm doing with work (currently in Shellharbour for a few months). Also, finances at that time of year are scarce... family decided it would be good to have everyones birthdays then.

But if numbers of those definately wanting to go outweigh places, chuck me at the back of the list until I can say for sure.

i'd love to come but my fiance will be 7 months pregnant then and i dont think bumpy 4wd trips would be too good for such sensitive creatures. and then there's the baby!

I might be able to make it for a day or 2.
I live relatively close to where you are thinking of going, but it depends on getting more time off.

Re: NSW and ACT Easter '06 trip

Hi Guys,

I had a meeting with Sutherland Shire Off-Road last night and I thought I should share this news with you.

Due to personal circumstances beyond Tony's (Sutherland Shire Off-Road owner) control, the Araluen trip has not yet been confirmed. There is a big chance that it will be postponed to another long weekend.

I thought you need to know this, in case you're arranging for time off to join us in this trip.

We had set the agenda and worked-out the details last night in full, so if I receive the green light, I'll post all information here.

Having said the above, I think we need to start thinking about a back-up plan (location) and Lithgow (as Brett suggested) seems like a good fun too.

So, let us concentrate our interest on the back-up plan for now, until I know more about the Araluen trip.

I'm terribly sorry about this, but it is beyond my control too.

Re: NSW and ACT Easter '06 trip

Just a thought for sooner or later:

Abercrombie Caves (between Bathurst/Blayney & Crookwell NSW) has a very pleasant camping ground and a few cabins. It is administered as part of the Jenolan Caves set up.

Its a lovely spot with creek & walking trails and caves to inspect.

I am not sure what driving trails there are nearby but I think there is at least one into an old mine site. In any case the main road from the caves to Crookwell could almost be classed as a 4wd track! The road from Bathurst or Blayney to the caves is sealed.

In any case Easter is close and always busy any there may be difficulties in making arrangements/bookings at short notice.

Has anyone else any experience of this area?

Re: NSW and ACT Easter '06 trip

If it's an old copper mine I have been there. I'd have to check on a map and maybe ask my father-in-law as we went to a copper mine somewhere around Bathurst about a year or so ago.

I've got maps for all around Bathurst, Lithgow, Oberon, Abercrombie NP etc, but you can't tell what it's going to actually be like from a map...
