Expressions of Interest: Sydney photo-shoot

The admin team have come up with the idea of having a photo shoot - just for the sake of it really.

I've come across a really good location that is accessible by 4WD and I thought I'd post up a message here to see who'd be interested in attending.

The location I'm looking at is Clovelly Bay, and I'd need to enquire with the local (Randwick) council as to the legalities of it all, any fees that might be involved etc. but I thought I'd wait until I got some feedback from you guys before I went to the effort of making the next step.

The location is to the south of Coogee, and you can drive down a (usually locked) new access driveway and onto the rocks where the waves break onto. It doesn't look like it would be too difficult to get an X-Trail onto the rocky area, and it would provide excellent backdrop for some photos (either the ocean as the background, or the rock wall).

I spoke to one of the surf life saving crew there while I was working out that way today and he said we'd need council permission
and possible need to pay a fee.

So at this stage it's just a "who's interested" - unfortunately I can't give any dates at this stage, but with Christmas fast approaching, I'd say it wouldn't be until early next year (and then we'll have to be careful when we want to do it to avoid it being overcrowded with people!).

If you've got Google Earth the co'ords are 33deg54min53sec and 151deg16min09sec (I'm no GPS expert so don't flame me for getting the details wrong!). And the image is fairly up-to-date as I was there a year or two ago for a mate's birthday (at the cafe on the south side) and they were just starting to lay that slab of concrete to the left of the co'ords I provided.

I'd also be interested in hearing other's suggestions for an alternative location too of course!

I'll attach a photo for those without Google Earth...

Re: Expressions of Interest: Sydney photo-shoot

Hi Guys,

I thought I'll revive Richi's idea of a photo shoot and I think it will be a perfect timing now with the cooler weather to be in that spot without too many crowds around the beach area.

It is also a good opportunity to meet-up and get to know each other before a bigger NSW-based outing with families which Brett has got planned.

So, let's see who is interested in joining-up this photo shoot and a chance to have your exy featured on the front page of the site.

Rich: Once the guys start to express interest in this, I would appreciate your help in obtaining council permission and the like to get the ball rolling.

P.S. This will be a weekend event, most probably a Sunday one.

No worries, Jalal.

I did speak to the local council ranger/surf rescue guy back then when I originally posted this thread, and he said to contact the council...

There is an alternative (carpark) on the point just to the west of the spot in the ohoto above, but I don't know how crowded it gets on weekends. Generally it's a fairly quiet beach but I don't imagine they'd make a carpark that big if it wasn't needed emoticon

I'll see if I can track down a contact person from the local council this week, as I'm still working in that area.

Jalal,
If rosters and family commitments allow, count me in. Who's supplying the cleaning products to give the cars a last minute detail emoticon

I think we should look at doing some 'group' photos of other areas of the state. Come on boys, start arranging things.

I was actually thinking of including a group photo for each State in the members profile section, so yes, it is a great idea if other States can do the same.

Re: Expressions of Interest: Sydney photo-shoot

I haven't contacted Randwick Council as yet but I have found this discouraging information on their website which will probably mean that the location I had in mind is now going to be highly unlikely:

To quote a few sentences from their website (slightly changed to avoid any copyright infringements emoticon )...

"Public Liability insurance (minimum value $10 million) is required for all filming/photography."

"Application fee of $132 inc GST."

and finally, "No vehicles will be permitted to enter a public reserve unless prior approval is given by Council. A Vehicle Fee of $39.66 is applied to a maximum of 4 vehicles per day."

It doesn't state if that's $39.66 PER vehicle and I'm not going to bother enquiring to find out, either emoticon

If we added up all their costs, I'm sure we could find a nicer place to go, and spend that money on petrol to get there! emoticon

The PDF forms on their website look way too involved for what we're trying to achieve! Actually I will contact them and see if we are eligible for any kind of exemption (but seeing as there's vehicles involved, I can't imagine we would be!).

We should remember that some Exy's are scared of the dirt and only like tar I know this is hard to believe so your front yard Jalal sounds fine to me
PS: plus every body would want there best rubber/rim package on for the photo shoot

Re: Expressions of Interest: Sydney photo-shoot

Dave,

I had in mind a "clean" photo shoot with no dirt involved.

I guess we gonna have to find a spot that is close to water on a grass area or something and possibly free admission.

There are some spots like that in Sydney, but am not sure about car access.

How about the bottom carpark at Stanwell Tops (down the bottom - ie: where the hang-gliders land, not where they take-off from). I think it's called Stanwell Park?

I think we've been there before for a group meet. We'd have to get there early to beat the picnic/BBQ lunch rush, and have one ourselves while we're there emoticon
