BRISBANE MEETUP - CONONDALES 12/3/05

Hi Brisbane X-trails,
I am planning a day trip (12/3) to explore the Conondale range (see write up below). If you are keen please reply to this post with your e-mail address. I will send you the state forest permit form. It is free but should be done before heading into this area (10 day turn around).

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

DaveQ

Conondales
(Rated as 1 of the top 5 4wd trips around Brisbane)

The hinterland of Queenslands Sunshine Coast has always held a special fascination for locals and Brisbane residents alike. It is an area of marvellous attractions. Small, picturesque villages among forested hills and open country offer the visitor a diversity that is impossible to ignore. Adding to the spice of adventure is the strong local legends that revolve around sightings of the Yowie, Australia's counterpart to America's Bigfoot. Yet for all that feeling of remoteness, the starting point for this trip is just 75km from Brisbane at Woodford on the D'Aguilar Highway. This is the Conondales Ranges, an area of mainly State Forest that is home to a wide variety of bird and animal life. In addition to the native varieties you may also come across a few deer that seem to have adapted well to the area. These may wander out in front of you on any of the tracks in the area so you need to keep a sharp eye open.

The tracks in the forest are mainly of clay and dirt with a few gravel roads. The duration of the trip is about 146km of which less than 30km is bitumen. Rain in the area can create a few boggy patches here and there, so you need to check on conditions before you go. This is an area that will delight anyone who appreciates the mix of rainforest, deep gorges and clear streams. The good thing about it is that this is not a difficult trip. Brad classes it as easy to moderate, with the proviso that bad weather could change that.

Re: BRISBANE MEETUP - CONONDALES 12/3/05

Hi Guys,

I am flexible when it comes to times.

At this stage I was thinking of meeting in Brisbane at around 7:30am and than joining Darryl & Robie (Darrylm) and another friend of mine in Caboolture at around 8:20am.

Let me know if this suits.

- DaveQ

Where in Brisbane do you want to meet?
We are thinking of joining everyone for the trip. I hope it's not too rocky as we have road tires on at the moment, but that shouldn't worry us unless there are sharp rocks.

Re: BRISBANE MEETUP - CONONDALES 12/3/05

Hi All,
Thanks for coming along on Saturday and exploring the Conondales.

We had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone.

Photos will be posted shortly. If you have any photos from your canmeras, please foward them to me. Likewise, if anyone would like any of my photos, just let me know and I will send them to you.

Thanks again for a great day,

PS: Sorry for taking you down that over grown bush track. It was a bit longer than I expected. (But hey - You have a try it once) emoticon

Kind Regards

DaveQ
