Re: Pre-Stockton sand practice

Hello fellow xtrailers emoticon

With all that rain today, I would have thought the sand would be firm enough for you not to get bogged.

As it poured down this morning and later in the afternoon, I thought, "I wonder how the boyz are doing over there?" This must be the exact moment you got bogged emoticon just kidding.

I take it you didn't go for a swim? emoticon

All I can say "I wish I was there with you guys" Damn work!

Looking forward to the pics "as always" emoticon

Sorry they're so large and no index page or thumbnails yet...

Image

stuck on the little ridge at the bottom of the hill (entrance to the beach)

Image

as above, viewed from the other side

Image

looking back at where I was bogged. Peter recommended I keep it in LOCK instead of AUTO from now on emoticon

Image

Set up the snatch and ready to get dragged back down the dune - notice back wheel in air

Image

The big dune I stopped on top of. You need to get enough momentum to get over the top of the dune, but not so much that you get airborne!

Image

you can see the front wheel is hanging over the edge of the dune

Image

The view from the bottom of the dune to the top. I made it on the second attempt (video footage to come soon).

(Edit By Jalal) Images converted to thumbnails

Re: Pre-Stockton sand practice

Hey Rich,

Awesome pics!

I reckon that my side steps would have been stuffed had I been in the same situation (pic #6)

Now that I've seen your pics, I'm worried about my sand/beach driving ability come Stockton day, so I think I need to do a practise run at the same place as well.

Andre (russki) interested? I think Pete also mentioned to me (today) that he’d be prepared to come with us (thank you Pete, I really need all the encouragement I can get)

How about Saturday the 12th of Feb?

Re: Pre-Stockton sand practice

Jalal,

I'm always keen to go sand driving!
Sunday will be better for me though, as I'm still not sure when my course starts.
I recon it will be fun to go in a small group first, to practice sand
driving, spend time on small dunes first, (getting bogged emoticon)
I've got snatch strap and air compressor, just need a shovel and radio and I'm fully equipped for an adventure.

What about 5/2,6/2 or 13/2?

Rich,

What air pressure did you have in your tyres?

Re: Pre-Stockton sand practice

Hi Andre,

Can't go on 5/2, as got something to do, not very keen for the 13th either, so this leaves us with 6/2 (which is ok with me at this stage)

Got a spare radio and a shovel.

Pete: Is the 6th OK with you? I don't know the area at all, so we need someone who's been there before.

Re: Pre-Stockton sand practice

I didn't adjust tyre pressure from standard road pressure. Changing pressure wouldn't have made any difference in both instances where I got bogged emoticon

Rich,

I just can't agree with that. Tyre pressure make all the difference in sand driving.
(for me emoticon)
