Pre-Stockton sand practice (OLD)

This is posted in reply to a PM I received from another member who is bored (I wont mention any names emoticon ) and wanted to do a trip this weekend...

I am "baby-sitting" my 16 year old brother for the end of the school holidays and I actually have the rest of this week off work. I was already thinking about taking him to Boat Harbour @ Kurnell for a day, to drive around the dunes, and probably go for a swim (I don't know how good the beach is there).

While I can't make it on Wednesday or the weekend, I am available on Thursday (27th) or Friday (28th) this week (I know it's very short notice).

I'm just letting everyone know in case they feel like doing some sand driving with me.

I believe park entry is $12 per vehicle per day, and I think the yearly pass is about $70 and is valid for a calendar year (so now would be the best time to buy it if you plan on going more than 6 times in the coming year, although I probably wont).

Looks like we're not going for a swim:

http://www.ssec.org.au/our_environment/our_bioregion/kurnell/environment/boat_harbour.htm

18 views of this topic and not one reply... I assume everyone is working Thursday & Friday...

At this stage we'll be going Thursday probably around 10am or so...

I'm also going to try and find the 4WD tracks somewhere on Heathcote Rd (apparently they're along the perimeter of some dirt-bike tracks). I intended to post a thread on this forum about a week ago, asking if anyone knew exactly where it was, but I forgot all about it until now. If anyone does happen to know exactly where it is, please reply to this thread...

Rich,

Yeah we are at work but I had the same sort of response when I asked if anyone wanted to head before March or even somewhere else.

Don't worry you will have fun as usual.

Re: Pre-Stockton sand practice

Sure can, Peter.

I might need something abit bigger than another X-Trail to pull me out if I get too adventurous emoticon

I assume you also know of the Heathcote 4WD trails I mentioned earlier? I wouldn't mind going there (at least for a look) if you don't mind pointing me in the right direction if you don't have time to stay...

I've got your mobile number, will call you if I need to. Otherwise is there any particular time or place you'd like to meet? I'm not sure exactly where abouts you live - I guess it's down that general direction somewhere...

You can continue this by emailing me at [email protected] if you like...

Re: Pre-Stockton sand practice

Well, all I can say is lucky Peter was there with me emoticon

I wont say too much now, but I will say that I had to be snatched out - TWICE! So now I can say I've been bogged enough to need to be snatched out. (Well they weren't exactly proper snatches - more like being dragged out).

Photos (& incriminating video footage) to come soon as always.

The dunes had much steeper drop-offs this time than last time - last time they were all nice and even and smooth; this time they were steeper and had powdery drop-offs on the other side - some too steep to drop over that we didn't even bother attempting them.

I also almost got stuck in some other powdery sand when Peter was elsewhere in the park...

But then again maybe if I hadn't been there, nobody would have been standing on top of the dune going "you'll be right - just a little go" emoticon
