Re: Stockton Beach Meet-up

I have a spare GME 5W hand-held I can lend someone for the weekend...

As for Sunday - not sure now if we'd be able to participate in the extra 4WD trip unless you can guarantee we'll be back in Sydney by about 5pm that evening at the latest.

Anyone know off the top of their head how long it takes to drive from Stockton Beach to Sydney Airport? I'd use www.whereis.com.au but it always gives me the wrong estimated travelling times - especially for long distances.

BTW I also have the Gregory's See Australia 4WD which has a Stockton article/review in it. It must be different to the 4WD Weekends one Dennis mentioned as I couldn't find any article with Freeman's Waterhole in it.

Re: Stockton Beach Meet-up

Guys,

If we're meeting at the caravan park at 9:00am on the 19th and am using 2.5hours as a guide (as I'll be coming from the same direction as Rich) that means I have to leave home at 6:00am!

Doable but a bit early for me, can we move the meet-up time to 9:30am or is that a bit too late?

9.30 is ok for me, my only advice for the people from sydney would not too leave stockton or were ever we are on the sunday no later than 2.30-3pm due to the bottle neck on the freeway.

Re: Stockton Beach Meet-up

Hi Dennis, am sure I can make it by 9:30am but 10:00am is even better if it's OK with everyone else.

Looks like I'll be travelling from Sydney all by myself as Richi is going there on Friday night.

Re: Stockton Beach Meet-up

Guys,

My wife and I went up on Sat with the Getabout mob and all I can say that you guys are going to have a great time. We were the only soft roader (there were Prados, Patrols, Rodeo and Hilux) and the Xtrail has no problems at all doing all the same dunes as these guys.

I once enquired with Vic Wildman's company about the Stockton tour and he said that he would not take Xtrails except on a special soft roader tour - apparently Lavis Lane would be a problem for the Xtrail. Checked out Aussie Off Road (where Peter used to work but they did not seem to have a Stockton tour).

However this other mob were happy for us to come (and to take our money) and we had no problems at all that day - Russki and basshead have already written down various sand driving tips over several occasions, so I won't repeat them here, except to say that I had an awesome time and I'm sure you guys will enjoy it as much as we did!

The only "problem" was in the car park at the northern end where we all started pumping up the tyres and a sudden storm drenched everyone. Got to try out the new compressor - each tyre inflated in about 3 min per tyre (but it felt like 30 with the rain and winds). Got back in the car and my wife pulled out a change of clothes for us from the overnight bag - oh, how good was that!!!! Didn't have to drive back in soaking wet clothes!

If you guys stop for lunch near the melaleuca swamp, take mozzie repellant with you, they're deadly. And we noted as we drove through Anna Bay on the way out (looking for a coffee shop) that there was a queue of cars waiting to use the air pump at the servo).

If you are driving back to Sydney, recommend you drop in at Heatherbrae Pies....hmmm...nothing like a hot meat pie after getting soaking wet and cold in a storm.

Anyway, you guys are in for a great day!
