Stockton is heaps of fun. I did it with tag alone group last year, and want to go again!
Lowered type pressure to 13 PSI - never got bogged, besides my manual
gearbox and heavy foot.
Radio is a MUST! Company of bigger 4WD with a snatch strap will be an advantage.
(as well as couple of shovels)
They are saying the send there is the softest in Australia, and constantly moving, so hazards appear from nowhere every day and disappear next.
For people who never driven on send I would recommend doing a tour
with www.getabout.com.au they are going on 5th of March - very educative and SAFE!
Cheers,
Andre.
P.S. Check out pics.
Thanks for the info. Andre.
I've never driven on sand before, but I do have a radio and a couple of shovels at home, so I guess I should be OK
What do you mean by "hazards appear from nowhere every day and disappear next"? can you give me an example. Is it rocks, tree branches or people hiding in the sand overnight and poping-up in the morning?
By the way, are you an xtrail or "bigger 4WD" owner?
Cheers mate and welcome to the forums.

Re: Stockton Beach Meet-up
Hi guys,
RE: changing conditions.
As sand is moving with a wind, some interesting stuff appears - like WWII concrete tank barricades (chain of concrete pyramides).
I would hate to land my Xtrail on one of those.
The secret to sand driving in xtrail is momentum. Just keep moving all the time, approach dunes with right speed, no breaking. No hesitation. Back off when stuck and try again.
To do that it's a good idea to have someone with a radio on top of the dune controlling the traffic.
So, at least hand held radio is a must.
I had all my four wheels once in the air as I jumped over the dune
Safety first!
Andre.
P.S.
Entered via Lavis Lane, travelled till the wreck, exited though Anna Bay (Last winter)
drive - 2003 ST Manual.
live in - Parramatta, Sydney.
Would love to go!
Anyone keen for next weekend? 29th or 30th of Jan? ( I just can't wait till March!)

Re: Stockton Beach Meet-up
Hey Andre,
I got very tempted to join you for a try run on the 29th or the 30th, but after checking with the "boss" I was given the red card.
I even suggested taking one my kids with me, but that didn't help either
I was given all the stories about getting lost in the desert and dying from thirst Yeah, you can tell we've never done beach driving trying to explain everything to my wife and the mother in-law is an exhausting process, so I gave-up.
I got a nod for the 19th of March though on the proviso that swimming will be on the agenda
Sorry mate.
