Please add or subtract if you want, otherwise geoff it is all yours. Six members and their families from the Xtrail Forum recently got together for the group's second meet up. The venue this time was the Watagan State Forest, located about 60 klms north of Sydney, and involved a bit of easy driving on the forest trails, exploring a number of scenic areas and plenty of time to compare and chat about each others Xtrail. I'll add it to the front page of the site. (like the nowra one) Post here will do. thanks Geoff. By the way, Xmas party sounds great. Some sunday arvo, someones back yard, a bbq, few beers, a line of gleaming xtrails out the front. I'd volunteer my place but my backyard is the size of a postage stamp. There is an "intro" thread buried in the depths of the earlier threads from many months ago... I was bored today and I owed my mum a drive out - so I took her for a drive to watagans in my xtrail. You will see the map in the previous post and it has directions to the pioneer cemetery (our meeting point) I have chosen this as it is a central point for those coming from the north and south. From Sydney the Wyong Turnoff is 60 klms on the F3. Today it took me about 1 1/2 hours from Harbour Bridge (in peak hour and fuel stop) Turn off is well signposted (just after the Ourimbah Weighbridge) From the Northern and Southern Turnoffs in the map it takes less then 10 minutes to get to the meeting spot. From Meeting point back to Freeway in the afternoon is about 100kms so fuel should not be a problem. Track Conditions. Most of the trip is very easy hard dirt and two way forest trail. About 15 klms of it is dirt/flat rock - but nothing major (for example a small sedan can do it) Nothing hitting the car or underbody or even tricky) Plan is to enter Watagans drive about 30 mins have a cuppa Drive another 30-40 mins have lunch and check out some falls and walking trails Drive another 15-20 min to check out Boarding House Dam (rockpools/falls and interesting trails) Drive about 30-40 mins stop at Basin camp Ground Drive out of watagans through Buketty/kulnura/peats ridge. Bid farewells to Northerners and head down Freeway There is no food or shops so please byo How long - today I entered watagans at 1030 and left park at 2.30 (on freeway at 3pm) In marourbra at 4pm. Mum and I stayed about 10-15mins at all places. So I think meeting up at 9 and allowing longer at lunch and other stops we will finish at about same time (ie freeway at 3 - 3.30. For Rich. There are opportunities to get out earlier if you want to come and shoot off earlier. I have tried to provide a mix of easy roads/ nice scenery and opportunities to stop/chat and look. If you haven't been there before - you will see a lot of places to go back for further investigation (and you will want to go back) If you have a radio I will be on uhf channel 25 , but I only have a handheld. If anyone is concerned about the map directions please let me know - they seem complicated but they are very simple to follow. However for those coming from the South . I will pull up on the side of the road about 300ms after the freeway turnoff at about 8.50 and hang around for a few minutes. Otherwise, you have seen the map, read the book, now you need to see it. BTW - has anyone yahooooooood cheers peternondisclosed_email@example.com (petersxtrail)Mon, 20 Sep 2004 21:46:31 +0000 Maphttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881464,from=rss#post881464https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881464,from=rss#post881464map removednondisclosed_email@example.com (petersxtrail)Mon, 20 Sep 2004 21:12:10 +0000 Re: road trip - road trip - road triphttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881463,from=rss#post881463https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881463,from=rss#post881463  I didn't even realise that my post was sensored and editted until I saw your's. If we met at wyong turn off at 9am that would mean Syney people leaving at about 7, it would allow time for any others still to get there and get back early if needed. It doesnt worry we to start later if needed. there may be dust but I cant see scratches being an issue at all, the track is two way. On that just spent a few days cutting back and polishing up my patrol (oh and got windows tinted) it looks great. I don't think I'll be able to drive for the whole day either with kids in the car, so I might drop-out earlier than the rest of the group anyway. It all depends on how long the trail is and what sort of road is it (i.e. is it similar to the Nowra trip or easier, dusty or not..etc) Sorry Pete I don't have the 4WD book to refer to for this type of information. I have only found one link that described this root (an Xtrail was part of the convoy as well) and by the sound of it, it's harder than the Nowra one, but I could be mistaken. http://www.jackaroo4wdclub.com.au/watagan.html nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Tue, 14 Sep 2004 18:22:14 +0000 Re: road trip - road trip - road triphttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881451,from=rss#post881451https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881451,from=rss#post881451The engagement party starts @ 5:30pm, so I don't think thre's much chance of us being able to get back in time for it, unless you start the day earlier.
