Racked up 4500kms on your beautiful NSW coast and hinterland and only went as far south as Newcastle. Many thanks to Dennis Val and James for looking after us at Stockton. It would have been a daunting prospect for us to tackle without their local knowledge. We all had a fantastic day in a landscape we had never experienced before. So much sand and so many dunes and so much sand and sand... A must do for anyone passing through the area.Once again many thanks Dennis and Val and please contact us if up our way. The visitors were amazed with the vast expanse of the area covered by the sand & the width and height of some of the dunes. We did not challenge ourselves or the vehicle by negotiating the larger dunes, but I know from experience that the EXY is quite capable of handling its self ok on Stockton Beach. We had a good time with the smaller humps & bumps I pointed out some features of the area to the others as we headed south to the "Synga" wreck ( not much left since it was grounded in 1974)for a well earned morning tea,our 3 1/2 year old grand son James had a great time in the sand & water but was reluctant to leave. The chance of seeing a Dolphin or Whale somewhere else encouraged him to move on. We then headed north following the other tracks but deviated a little along the beach at times & also in the dunes until we found "TIN CITY" a community of approx. 6-8 dwellings with Solar power & other facilities in the middle of stockton beach.A sight to be seen. We then headed further North to the exit at Birubi Point where we inflated our tyres & had a couple of drinks at the Anna Bay Tavern to conduct a Post Mortem of the days activities. We all had great day & the Exy's performed well. Thanks for your company & frienship Darryl,Robyn & friends.Hope to meet up with you in your area soon. We have a couple of photos but are unsure about how to put them onto this site.We have limited knowledge in this regard. A meeting point can be arranged at either Lavis lane Williamtown or at Anna Bay.Probably meet at 10.00am & finish up at about 3.00pm. We are very flexible & will fit into any ideas you have. Going North from Williamtown to Anna Bay along the beach would be the the better option. Not a very difficult drive but adventureous & great for photos. Anyone interested please let me know. Final details will be worked out later. We took the lot on the first part of the Yengo trek in the "4wd treks around Sydney" book. From St Albans to Bucketey. Very easy, there were even sports cars doing it. St Albans is a nice spot for a cleansing ale though. And the kids werent doing the "are we there yet?", but did give us the "where are we going?" a few times!. My Mrs is "considering" Stockton at the moment. nondisclosed_email@example.com (GeoffM)Mon, 04 Oct 2004 15:59:56 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach difficulty rating?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881242,from=rss#post881242https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881242,from=rss#post881242sunday would be better for us, but I haven't asked Clare if we can go, yet nondisclosed_email@example.com (basshead)Mon, 04 Oct 2004 09:49:22 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach difficulty rating?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881241,from=rss#post881241https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881241,from=rss#post881241Hey Dennis and Val, sounds great. Received your PM and am quite happy to go to Stockton Beach on either 23rd or 24th October whichever suits you best. It would be great if the other X-Trailers could come along as well and see the great beaches we have to offer in this area. A convoy of X-Trails would be an impressive site on Stockton Beach. We could meet at Lavis Lane a couple of hundred metres along from the Service Station at Williamtown at say 10.00 am then spend a few hours on the beach, dunes and then head up north and exit at Birubi Point. Anyone who is interested, plese let us know and we can forward a map showing exact meeting point, and directions etc. Dennis & Val nondisclosed_email@example.com (Sexy Rexy)Sat, 02 Oct 2004 13:38:47 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach difficulty rating?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881239,from=rss#post881239https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881239,from=rss#post881239Hey Rich I haven't heard back from Dennis and Val yet but that sounds like a great idea to us. It would be great to meet some of you guys while we are down your way and have a great day . We will be staying at Fingal Bay from pm 20 Oct to 24 Oct, so I guess that makes the week-end of the 23/24 Oct the go if it can be arranged. thanks DarrylMnondisclosed_email@example.com (DarrylM)Sat, 02 Oct 2004 10:47:26 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach difficulty rating?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881238,from=rss#post881238https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881238,from=rss#post881238I'm sure others would be keen as well... We could make this into the next organised X-Trail event. It's a little short notice, but we could give it a try, if you know exactly what day you intend on going to Stockton... If others aren't keen on such a trip, I was already planning on organising a day to Boat Harbour in Kurnell (Sydney), which would be similar to Stockton I imagine (it has lots of sand dunes and is virtually advertised as a "4WD funpark" ). See the Events Forum on here for more info on Boat Harbour. nondisclosed_email@example.com (basshead)Fri, 01 Oct 2004 15:17:52 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach difficulty rating?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881237,from=rss#post881237https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881237,from=rss#post881237Hi Dennis & Val Have tried to send you a PM can your pls check if you got it. thanks DarrylMnondisclosed_email@example.com (DarrylM)Fri, 01 Oct 2004 13:22:16 +0000 Re: Stockton Beach difficulty rating?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881236,from=rss#post881236https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p881236,from=rss#post881236Hi! Darryl & Robyn This is Dennis & Val. We live at Newcastle, 30-40 Minutes drive from Stockton Beach. We are familiar with the beach although we still need to explore a lot more of it.The area, dunes & beach are very busy with vehicles & buggys on weekends. The Beach is 20-30 kms long with numerous Dunes & tracks. The X-Trail handles it O.K. with tyre pressure about 15-18 psi. There is 2 access points. 1. Lavis Lane: Near Williamtown Airport Southern access,Usually very soft sand & narrow track with no scratches for about 500 metres then easy going to the beach.Follow other people's tracks. X-Trail handles it O.K.( 2nd Gear with a bit of momentum ) about 1 km to the beach/water. 2.Birubi Point: Northern Access, usually quite hard sand & numerous tracks lead to beach.Easy drive onto beach, follow other tracks, quite busy area but no problems for beginners. Garage 2 minutes away to pump tyres up if needed. Ideal trip is to enter in Lavis Lane, spend some time on beach & checkout " Sygna " Wreck, go up & down sand dunes etc. & continue north along to Birubi Point. We would be quite happy to accompany you on such a trip along the beach or show you the area. It is a great place to enjoy. The plan is to drive to Port Stephens area and then spend 2 weeks working our way back to QLD. Have heard a lot about Stockton Beach and would like to explore the area. What sort of 4wd experience is required? Robyn has driven on beaches on the Sunshine coast but would still probably come under beginner. Any suggestions from local knowledge on what to see and do on NSW mid coast would be gratefully received. Thanks DarrylM nondisclosed_email@example.com (DarrylM)Mon, 27 Sep 2004 17:11:52 +0000
