Re: Meet Up June 2004

Hi Guys,

Today (Sunday 20th) we checked out a meeting spot and came up with the Caltex service station in Heathcote (UBD page 351 ref G12), it's the last service station before heading south towards Wollongong etc.

In our experience it takes a good 1 1/2 hours to Nowra because of the traffic and road around Kiama so a 8am start would be prefered to get to 7 mile beach in time.

What does everyone else think, we're easy going so we'll go with the flow.

Cheers Bob & Monica.

Re: Meet Up June 2004

I'm fine either way and I know the Caltex service station near the Heathcote station, so I'm fine to meet there at 8:00am

Let me know when everybody has agreed on the Caltex meet-up and I'll see you there next Sunday.

Re: Meet Up June 2004

Bob, it sounds like you've done your homework mate, I think the Caltex is a great idea - unless there are better offers, I will meet you there sometime before 8 for a departure at 8 on the dot. I'm not sure of the way to Seven Mile Beach so I will be looking for one of you guys to lead the convey action down the freeway.

Re: Meet Up June 2004

just for planning Seven mile Beach is between Geringong and Nowra

After the bends just after Kiama, the highway straightens up and there is a turnoff (across railway line and well signposted) to Geringong /Geroa. This is the coast road to Nowra.
Follow this road through both towns, the down hill looking out over beach past caravan park. The picnic spot is a few klms down road.
Lost yet! I am still going to put better directions up this week.

I'll meet you guys at Seven Mile beach.
I have to drop someone down to Nowra in the morning.

Peter, how long would it take to get back from Bomadery to the seven mile beach meet-up site? 20 mins? And is it better up the highway to Geringong, or along the coast road.

Re: Meet Up June 2004

grayham.
Come back up the coast road. 20-25 mins max.
Will post detailed instructions tonight.
From caltex at Heathcote trip is about 1 hour 10 minutes (94klms).
As you leave Gerroa, go across Crooked River Bridge, picnic area is 3.4ks further on left. It is at a T-intersection, Turn Left Signpost Seven Mile Beach Left , Berry Right.
But I will post a more detailed trip note from Heathcote to there tonight.
cheers

Directions to Meeting Point

Hi all
Please find the directions to the meeting point below. Formatting may be a little out but tried to import a table without success.
Trip takes about 70 minutes. Watch out for speed cameras.

First number is trip distance in klms. Number in brackets is distance between points.

0 (0) Depart Heathcote (Caltex) Follow signs to Nowra on Freeway

60 (60) Stay on main road. Enter Dapto,Petrol/Food available. Freeway becomes Princess Highway. Follow signs to Nowra .

74 (14) Stay on main road. Drive through built up area approaching Kiama. Then down hill looking out over Bombo Beach. Note road works for new bypass in progress

77 (3) Stay on main road. Signpost and turn off for Kiama. Don’t take continue straight on main road (bypass)

83.4 (6.4) Road becomes one lane. Just after the bends.

85.4 (2.0) Turn Left across railway track. Note there is a big sign on left for Seascape and Gerringong.

87 (1.6) Continue Straight ahead at Roundabout. Drive through shops

87.8 (0.8) Continue Straight through Roundabout (Ampol Petrol on Left). You are on Tourist Drive 6.

88.5 (0.7) Continue Straight through Roundabout.

90.4 (1.9) Continue Straight Enter Gerroa and then down hill overlooking beach.

91.4 (1.0) Cross bridge over Crooked River. Road then veers right and goes past caravan park

94.9 (3.5) Turn Left at T intersection. Signpost – Left to Seven Mile Beach Picnic Area, Right to Berry. (Grayham your signs will be the opposite!!)

Looks involved but really just stay on main road and there are only two turns, both to Left. One to get into Gerringong and the other into Meeting point.

If you are running late give me a call on 041 222 6996. If you have a radio Channel 25.

Cheers and looking forward to it
Peter
