Re: Windscreen Replacement

I copped a stone about 2 weeks ago, and what was a tiny crack is now a very large crack. Called around a bit this morning, have a local place that will fit XYG glass for 165 - and I can supply genuine seals for about 105 so $280 all up.

or

I can go O'Brien and have them install 'whatever is on the shelf' (80% of their stuff is XYG) with genuine seals for $430. Is the extra 12 month warranty worth $150?

Re: Windscreen Replacement

I'd be seeing what the warranty covers (probably not stone chips!). The $150 extra is almost as much as a new windscreen glass anyway!

What about your insurance policy if you have one? Some allow windscreen claims without affecting your no-claim-bonus rating, but in saying that, I think my excess would be more than the cost of the windscreen anyway...

Re: Windscreen Replacement

woow... nice to see you have options... seeing our windshield is part of the insurance claim.. they just tell use $350 flat rate... you use your insurance... then it's a claim on the insurance and your rates go up... or it out of your pocket....

Re: Windscreen Replacement

Re: Color coded bonnet protector: Id like to add a Knight rider "KITT" LED display emoticon

I got a big crack on my windscreen on the way home from the west coast last night. Massive rock from a oncoming semi.

My insurance company gives me one free windscreen a year at no cost to me. I have booked it in through their preferred supplier (O'Briens) for tommorow. They say they will replace the seal aswell. I mentioned to them that my windscreen has a UV strip accross the top, and i would like a windscreen that has this. During the group call, the fitter mentioned that they only have one type of windscreen that they stock, and it is clear glass, no UV strip.
I will go home via the store tonight to show them and insist that they replace the windscreen with a PGI screen, with UV strip and genuine Nissan seals.

Does everyone else have the UV strip on the top of their windscreen?

*EDIT* It turns out that we have green tinted glass which is slightly more tinted at the top.

I had a chat with the guy at O'Briens about PGI vs XTG glass. It took some coaxing but in the end he said that on average 1 in 4 XTG windscreens come back for one reason or another. The number would be higher if people noticed the distortion in the glass. XTG is cheaper, not as good as the Aussie made PGI but somehow meets ADR.

After mentioning that i would be blogging my adventure on the worlds best Nissan X-Trail forum he organised for a PGI windscreen to be fitted tommorow at my workplace, with a UV strip at the top, and genuine Nissan Seals. The PGI windscreen comes with its own seals, the XTG doesn't.

So far so good, you just need to know the right questions to ask.

Re: Windscreen Replacement

Today I had mine replaced with a locally made PGI windscreen. It looks amazing, and the UV band makes driving in the sun more comfortable.

As far as the warrenty goes, i would say its worth it. If you have any problems with your windscreen (leaking, whistling etc) it will be fixed for free, including any damage it does to your car. OBriens also use the best sealants, original rubbers, and the latest tools to do the job. The guy that did mine said that they get alot of work from people who goto the cheaper places to save a few bucks and were not happy.

You get what you pay for..

ANyway, im pretty happy with how mine turned out, must remember to clean my dash now, you can see how dirty it is!

Andrew
Is there any chance you could take a pic from the inside so I can see what the stip looks like.
I have never seen one on an Xy as you describe it.
Cheers

I tried Obriens for the PGI but they told me they don't do them and gave me (protector glass) as the supplier here in Mackay.
Done a good job and you certainly do forget how clean a window can be.
Oh yeah $235 fitted.

Re: Windscreen Replacement

Wow $235 fitted, I rang for 2 quotes before it was done recently on insurance and the best i got was $340. Mine new screen is XTG with no visual deformities and passed the hose test.
