Re: Eyelids
Nathan,
The eyelids cover the non-lighted part of the headlight, so they would not affect the brightness at all.
Yes, I have used mine at night and standard headlight brightness is still there.
Next time you turn on your headlight have a look at the top section of it and you will see that no light is coming through it.

Type AX Head Light Eyelids
Hi Guys,
The Australian X-Trail Forum and the On Line X-Trail Shop are proud to announce that registered members of the forum will now have full access to our very own Type AX Eyelids!
They are made of fiberglass.
They will come fully colour coded to match your exy and can either be secured in place using the self adhesive tape which will be applied to them OR glued on in place permanently (which I think is the better option)
Go the (AX) Australian X-Trail

P.S. Members: When placing the order, please provide the colour and the series (I or II) of your xtrail, so we can make sure that the exact colour is matched. As we know, some colours between series I and II are not the same.

Would their use preclude the continued use of headlight protectors?
John, with the eyelids fitted, you won't be able to use the factory head-light protectors.
This is a photo of the factory head-light protectors and you can see that the distance between the protector and the surface of the lens is pretty tight, so there will not be enough room for the headlight protector to cover the eyelid.
Personally, I do not favour the factory headlight protectors at all. I had mine for 1 month and they ended-up cracking all over the place and I had to throw them out.
With the eyelids fitted, you will be reducing the exposed section of the headlight and all that needs to be covering is the front section of the lens and the lower portion of the signal light. A protective film can achieve that easily and it'll look much nicer too. You won't have to worry about dirt getting stuck behind the protectors either. (Just a thought)
quote: Would it be better to tape them on in case the headlight lens has to be replaced, as if glued it may not be able to be removed from the broken "glass"?
They will come supplied with self adhesive tape, you can use this option or remove the tape and glue them in place. It is a personal choice.

With taping, or gluing, does the cover sit tightly and look original, without appearing to be sitting on top as an afterthought.
Yes, the cover will sit perfectly and will align with the edges of the headlight, so it doesn't affect the opening and closing of the bonnet. The shape of the eyelids allows for the thickness of the double sided adhesive tape to be there without affecting the way it is fitted in place.
Thanks for your questions and if anyone has any other questions, please yell out.

Re: Head Light Eyelids
No worries Dave, but please send your pre-order confirmation to the On Line X-Trail Shop with the year and colour code of your exy, as am now in the process of collecting all this information (especially the colour codes)
I visited the factory yesterday and they said the ball is rolling indeed and I should be seeing them VERY soon.
