Re: Nokia phone Car Kit installation.
G'day davexnew,
And welcome to the forums.
How much did you pay for your kit if you don’t mind me asking?
For those that might prefer a really cheap alternative, Silvia picked me up a “Car Baby” (Wireless Handsfree Car Kit by Car Radio System), from Ebay a few weeks ago for a total of $15.49 ($4.99 + $10.50 postage).
The unit is very simple and slips over the earpiece of most mobile phones.
Press the {on} button on the “Car Baby”, have the radio tuned to either 88.7FM or 106.4FM, and then make your call. The voice of the person your speaking with is then transferred through to the speakers of your radio.
Here are a couple of pics:
A few negatives to the “Car Baby” is that you’ll need a Phone Holder of some description. Your phone will not be charging and there will be no extra boost to your signal, as opposed to the dedicated phone kits.
Cheers

Re: Nokia phone Car Kit installation.
Noel,
I have one of these units as well. They're selling everywhere now and you can even pick one from a $2 shop (junk shops)
I haven't found it to be good at all, I do have a phone holder and it's right next to my CD/radio unit, but the distortion that comes with the signal and the low level volume forces me to break the law and pick-up the phone, so I reverted back to the conventional earphone method
The situation in Cairns could be different, as you guys have less traffic and therefore less interference with the signal, so it might work perfectly there.

Re: Nokia phone Car Kit installation.
Sorry, no answers but an extra question: in the booklet supplied about the audio system in my series 1 ST (single cd unit) it says that the unit automatically detects any aux input and switches to aux - I thought that sounded like I might be able to connect a phone kit to this presumably "line in" and when a call came through it would switch over by itself and the sound would come through the audio system. I haven't checked the back of the unit, but had been going to post a question to ask whether anyone else has? Do these NOkia kits have some sort of "line out"?

Re: Nokia phone Car Kit installation.
Hi Tin,
I just browsed through the CD Manual and came across this diagram which I think confirms that the head-unit is capable of handling a phone system hook-up.
The head-unit shown in the manual was the Series II 6CD changer with radio and cassette player.
While it doesn't mention anything about the mute function, I believe if wired-up correctly as shown in the above diagram it will switch-off any other audio source and revert to the phone system.
Dave's explanation also makes sense with the AUX input, as usually when the AUX input is activated/used, it switches off all other audio sources.

Re: Nokia phone Car Kit installation.
Jalal,
Honestly I've only used the Car Baby once and seemed to be ok.
Although I'm sure for a cheap and nasty $2 item, it's quite unlikely to be perfect.
I'll keep you posted as I test mine over the next few weeks.
Cheers
