Look what I've done to her car
What do you get if you put an xtrail between a jackaroo & a commodore?
An xtrail sandwich!
Have posted some photo's on Yahoo xtrail site showing the damage to our xtrail after being shunted up the a--e by a jackaroo which then pushed us into the commodore. NOT HAPPY JAN!!! Car is still drivable but it has smashed rear bumper, creased left rear quarter panel so rear quarter is actually hitting rear passengers door, bent back lift up door, creaesd rear floor pan, bent nudge bar, stuffed front bumper & that's without looking!
PS: Jalal, I shouldn't have taken the flex out of the rear guards should I.
(Edit By Jalal) Added the pics here from Yahoo, as not everyone has access to the other forum

Re: Look what I've done to her car
Oh no xtrailing!
Sorry to see your exy so badly damaged, but hopefully it'll be fixed like new again.
I can see the tailgate and rear bumper being replaced and possibly the front bumper as well (didn't see too many pics of the front bumper) the rear fenders will be straightened out as well as that crease in the rear floor pan.
It doesn't look like you've any major damage to any components, but I could be wrong.
Don't think they'll write it off, compared to the damage I've seen at the wreckers.
You can now ensure that there is no flex whatsoever with the new bumper
What was the extent of the damage to other cars?
I know it's frustrating to see your car smashed-up like that, but believe it'll all be forgotten when you see shining again.
The main thing is that you're OK

Re: Look what I've done to her car
Thanks guys, the vehicle is still drivable, the hit was at about 70kph, I had pulled up to miss a 3 car shunt that had happened in front of us & whammo I thought I was "batting for the other side" & took it up the rear!! Wife & 2 kids in car, kids ok, wife got out of the car as it's her pride & joy, & absolutely abused the driver that hit us (EMINEM hadn't heard some of the language that came out of her mouth!!!) & was histerical, been to quacks today & said it was shock!(They've got a name for all kinds of bad behaviour these days haven't they!!). Reinflamed a crook neck & back she had. Poor guy behind wasn't tailgating, things happened very quickly as they do in an accident, but I still had time to look in the mirror & say s--t this is going to hurt. Accident has also done something to steering column IE: bent column or probably steering wheel as when you turn the wheel it scrapes against the wiper/blinker shroud. Been to panel beaters tonight for them to get ball rolling & they said that they wouldn't be able to give insurance company quote as they couldn't assess all the damage until they started stripping car. Will have to go on rack to be stretched & checked. Estimate of damage is over 10 grand. Hard to pick damage to front of car in photo but it's "NUDGED" the nudge bar back on the passenger side into the bumper, bent brackets underneath etc. Panel beater reckons it would have bent the chassis on Jackaroo.
Jalal, thanks for transferring photo's, as you can probably gather I'm not terribly computer literate, tradesman by occupation so better with my hands!!

Re: Look what I've done to her car
Bad luck mate, wrong place at the wrong time huh. At least everyone is ok, that's the main thing.
That foglight doesn't look right, maybe you should pull it out and get a set of new ones installed. I'd happily take the 'broken' set off your hands...
Cheers

Hi xtrailing,
Nice try with the pics
I'm going to transform one of the pics into a thumbnail and I will show how it is done in the process:
Look HERE for details.

Re: Look what I've done to her car
Nice instructions jalal.
Xtrailing, make sure that when they fix your car every panel fits nicely and that the rear tailgate opens and closes easily. When i got hit in my old car from behind i got it back from an "A-class" repairer on central coast and i found the boot had trouble closing and the rear bumper was still bent out of place.

Re: Look what I've done to her car
Good advice there Matt,
The other thing to watch out for is Genuine and Brand New parts to be used by the smash repairer and not some salvaged pannels from the wreckers
Make sure you mention this to smash repairer (if you don't know them personally) as it is not a requirement insruance companies would insist on, so it's up to you to request that.
