UV Protection
My wife had had a number of areas of skin cancer and as a result we are trying to find out how much protection the glass used in the X-Trail give especially the windscreen. Does any one know?

Re: UV Protection
Hi John,
While I'm no expert on this, I would presume the UV protection levels from the windscreen is not that high at all, because the glass is clear. It only requires the xtrail to be parked under the sun for while to feel the heat coming from the front.
As for the side and rear windows, it depends on what type of window tint is applied to it.
There is window tint available on the market that would only allow 5%-20% to come through.
The windscreen can not be tinted however.

Re: UV Protection
Many thanks for information. I have also now found laminated glass has a 70 protection factor, its apparently the plastic used between the two sheets of glass (side glass is 10). So the easy solution is UV protection film on side windows and tinted on the roof one.

Hi BruX and welcome.
Are you sure you posted the correct link? as the one you supplied above is for an internet hosting site and I'm not sure how is it related to the subject of this topic.

Re: UV Protection
***Information Posted by John7***
Customer services and my dealer in the UK were useless (both as ever) as was as to what level of protection the glass in the X-Trail provides. But those in Japan were much more helpful. They have told me
With regard to your inquiry as to the UV protection level for side widows on your vehicle we would like to confirm the following.
UV transmittance (%)
Front door glass with UV protection glass Approx. 10.0
Rear door glass with normal green glass Approx. 35.0
Rear door glass with privacy glass Approx. 5.0
Side glass with normal green glass Approx. 35.0
Side glass with privacy glass Approx. 5.0
The engraved numbers and symbols on all the side windows are not the information regarding UV protection factor.
