Re: XTrail Air Filter

Hi Jalal & others

Thank you for advice re Singapore supplier.
I have emailed for a price.

Since doing that I rang my nearest Autobarn (70k away) and they have one in stock for $99. However, the shelf price apparantly differs to their computer. In think I had better hi-tail it over before they change their mind! They also sell oil for $24.95 but I will not get that at this stage. Seems the Qld. guy is way off beam.

Re: XTrail Air Filter

Guys, bought my K&N at Bursons, don't know whether you guys have them in other states it's the same style store as Repco. Mine cost $90 & was told it's the same as a commodore filter, so nothing special about it for the xtrail. With regards to the Hiclones, I am running 2 in my car & have noticed a slight improvement in performance mainly when towing caravan. Haven't tried removing them since the extractors have been fitted to see if I can notice any difference. As far as economy goes ?????
Definately spend your money on the K&N it's noticable & perhaps look at putting your Hiclone money torwards an exhaust/extractor upgrade

Re: XTrail Air Filter

Hi,
30/6/05

Purchased my K&N filter from Autobarn Orange NSW @ the old special price of $99. I was told that their computer as of yesterday shows the price of $140.
I havent been for a drive yet but certainly the air induction noise is greater which means that more noise and air is getting through.
I also have switched to 95 oct. fuel following the advice from this forum.

Now - to solve the tyre problem!!

Great stuff John. You're now part of the K&N family emoticon

Don't expect to see a sudden change in performance just yet, the ECU needs to adjust itself to the new airflow settings and this would take about 2-3 days.

Give it a good test run on the highway after that.

I'd seek out 98 octane - Shell Optimax, or the BP 98, (or some Caltex Vortex with special banners. I think you'll find it justifies the extra (probably 10 dearer than standard unleaded whilst 95 octane is about 7c around here). Once the ecu adjusts I reckon the extra fuel economy outweighs the cost.

John,

All the info. about what type of fuel is better to use and if it's worth considering paying extra for the premium unleaded can be found HERE

Re: XTrail Air Filter

Removed the hiclones over the weekend & was told to put them back in straight away by her royal highness, as the difference was noticable in acceleration. The engine definately feels stronger & crisper with them inserted.Still not sure on economy as I dont normally worry about it, if it's empty fill it up or stay at home!! Having said that curiosity is getting the better of me with all the talk of economy on this site,so I have asked "she who must be obeyed" to started keeping a log of the fuel usage etc so I can tell if any of the modifications do have an effect.

Re: XTrail Air Filter

Hi there, has anyone in Australia had much success with installing a CAI kit into an XTrail..???

I was looking at the K&N 57 kits...however, I cant figure out if it is suitable.....

Does anyone know whether there are any suppliers for CAI kits in Perth...?? Its dead ol' one out here let me tell you that much...

A sleepy township it is.....probably why it makes it a great town to run the ol' drag once in ahwile....!!!!

Re: XTrail Air Filter

Hi MaxiExy,

CAI is on my very near future "Mods to be done" emoticon

I have done quite a bit of research on this for our exy and found a couple of very good brands that would fit the exy perfectly

I mentioned one of them on page 7 of this thread, you can find it HERE

The other good brand (which is a bit more expensive) is AEM cold air intake and if you decide to buy it, you gonna need to order the one for Nissan Sentra SpecV (which has exactly the same engine as ours)

You can get the CAI in all sorts of colours (yes, chrome as well) emoticon

The only thing that is stopping from me getting right away is the location of it (too low in the mudguard) as you will see on the same page or the next (page 8 I think)

So, for me to get it, I would have to order the By-Pass valve as well (to be on the safe side when going off-road or in heavy rain)

The feedback I've been getting who have done the CAI mod is excellent, in terms of power boost as well as that sexy and powerful roar.

Hope that helps emoticon
