Re: X-Trail Tail Lights Modification
Wow Chris, They look awesome indeed and you're absolutely right in saying that they look nice on the silver exy cause the black border outline of the tail lights shows up much clearer than on my black exy for sure.
Well done mate. 1 and 1/2 hours is not bad at all, considering it took me nearly 3 hours to do being the first one to have them fitted

Re: X-Trail Tail Lights Modification
Hi Guys,
Chris has grabbed the last set of LED Tail Lights when I had them, but since then I have been constantly asked about them as it is one super cool modification that will transform the look of the exy indeed.
I have ordered more of them and happy to report that the Genuine Nissan LED Tail Lights are now in stock!

Re: X-Trail Tail Lights Modification
Posted by dca - Moved from another thread
============================
I made a led conversion. this is not my first led application on cars but this time it is looking like it is stock. i also installed leds interrior but no photos yet. only dash gauge is stock.
i used 8 mm wide, flexible smd led stripes. i bought it from a local store here, and paid USD 17 for red color (1 meter).
it took 3 hours for two tail lights. i melt two holes on proper positions at back of tail lights and installed led stripes by tightining them from two sides of stripes, inside taillight and fixing them with CA glue at back. again i soldered 78xx series regulators to regulate 11.7 volts at output.
here are few pictures. actual look is much better than photos.

Re: X-Trail Tail Lights Modification
Looks good, now all you have to do is the fog light and the reflectors.

Re: X-Trail Tail Lights Modification
Yep, it is a matter of taste, but there is a very good reason why car manufacturers are mowving away from the conventional bulbs to the LED (for the front and rear), one reason comes to mind is less power consumption and longer life of the LED compared to standard bulbs, not to mention much more brightness, hence added safety.

Re: X-Trail Tail Lights Modification
That's what they're designed for Terry, to be bright both at night and day time. How many times you have driven behind a car in daytime with the sun shining on the rear of the car in front of you and you can't tell if the guy in front of you in braking or not? Happens to me all the time and I just sit there and guess what the other car is trying to do. Not the case with LED tail lights where they provide a distinctive and very clear indication either with the use of parkers or brake light.
Not all cars drive around with a 500 watt sound system, certainly not me for example LOL
Power consumption might not concern too many people but it is things like LED tail lights that give your car battery a longer life compared to halogen bulbs.

Re: X-Trail Tail Lights Modification
The other advantage of LEDs and it is one of the main reason truck drivers go for them is that in a bank of lights you can loose a globe or more and still have an effective tail light system, another safety feature other than brightness .
Also if a car is running appliances/lights/stereo etc with the motor running, the charge from the altinator keeps the battery at full charge so power consumption is no real issue, LEDs are used for their other advantages in the automotive industry.
