Re: xtrail pc install

Water can enter the cabin during a crossing and the usual spot to keep an inverter is under your seat, the lowest point in the cabin, hence the worry about have live 240V in a puddle where you put your feet.

12V is safe, dc at high voltages/currents can only cause burns, AC will cause your heart to go into fibrilation.I know which one I'd rather be shocked with. Also AC will cause muscles to contract, where as dc just burns the skin.

An old sparkie trick to test for live wires is to tap the wires with the back of your hand. Muscles will contract causing hand to move away from live wires, unlike using your palm which live wires cause your hand to close tighter around the wires.

Re: xtrail pc install

hmm dont like the sound of that wire testing trick, i might save my pocket money for a multimeter! I copped a good whack of 3 phase once, pretty mind bending experience!

annnyway - any news on the xtrail PC install front? Im dead keen to do it, but looking forward to learn from others pioneering work in the field. Ive come across a guy who is gonna be selling something called an Infill T3 as of early feb - its a car PC with a touchscreen, DVD, GPS, wireless lan, mobile internet etc... it comes as two seperate 1xDIN units so you can install them together or use the spare DIN slots in the exy!

check it out at www.maxice.com.au

im not sure of pricing yet but im guessing will be similar to a comparative custom PC install?

Re: xtrail pc install

yeh the infill system certainly looks nice! i think its gonna be pretty exy.. mp3car.com has a similar unit for sale for $1999 US. my whole system will cost me much less than AU$1999!

anyway a quick update - i put the screen in the car yesterday (was sick and tired of having the stereo, a/c, and air vents bouncing around) and ran all the power wiring for the pc, amp and screen tonight. the pc is going under the passenger seat, and it is going to be easily removable for water crossings of which i do next to none anyway.

so tomorrow morning ill have the first test run in the car.

edit
after reading a bit about the infill t3 @ mp3car.com, it seems its going to be around US$2250 and up

the early samples were selling for US$3500!!!

(and its much more fun to make ur own emoticon )

Re: xtrail pc install

Hi all
I found this on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5857338948

I have been thinking about a total system that can be updated via blue tooth. I have a blue tooth transmitter that can send and receive up to 100 metres fitted to my home computer (USB Fob). My Idea is to replace both DVD player and CD unit with a computer that can do both. And I don’t require any discs or memory cards to update my music / movies, As I will just send them from the home computer to the car?

Anyone got any thoughts on this

Re: xtrail pc install

yeh that looks ok...

i wouldnt want to be updating my media collection over bluetooth though.. its not the fastest method!!! ud be better of with wifi 802.1g...

and those via 1ghz cpus arent the best performers.. but when u factor in size it seems pretty good.

Re: xtrail pc install

oh its all in and running... sort of.
screen is fabricated into the dashboard, almost looks like it is meant to be there. the pc is in a perspex box under the passenger seat but im thinking of moving it to the back of the car (where the spare tyre kit is, and throwing all the spare tyre bits and pieces (jack etc) into the spare wheel itself wrapped up in rags.

I dont have gps as such... i do have the software installed - destinator 3, and this still gives me electronic maps of all of australia. just need to buy a gps receiver now. also on the to do list is reversing camera and dvd drive.

the computer has full phone control via bluetooth, which is brilliant as im on the road a lot and take way too many calls in a day.

at first the hard drive used to skip a lot over sydney's crap roads (causing songs to skip), but it has since stopped doing that which seems weird.. not that im complaining..

but yeh i have it at a useable stage at the moment and just enjoying it for a bit before i modify it again. theres some pics at this link.

oops all those pics are already in the first post of this thread.. i have some more up to date ones i'll have to post!

Hi Guys,

For those interested in doing a car-puter project in the T31 exy, check THIS out. It's an awesome result for sure and a top job.

Same one AussieHoudini posted in this thread Jalal, but his was a post from MP3car forum.

Yes very nice since the T31 has such a large glovebox, but mine will be much neater once I finish gathering parts emoticon
