Re: Performance Enhancers
Oh, forgot to meantion. I initially said, "that's a good price?"
The guy replied "They are a cheap price because he is going to order them direct with the manufacturer, missing out the middle man"
I guess you can ask to have them ordered this way when you go to buy yours.
Kind Regards

Re: Performance Enhancers
Yep, thought so as well Shane, at least I'll get rid of this ugly pipe that is sticking-out and it looks odd when we have a nice chrome exhaust tip fitted to such an ugly exhaust pipe
I don't want to even think about touching the cat. coverter (not again, one recall is enough)

Jalal,
I would doubt changing the rear elbow only will enhance performance as most restrictions are within the main part from cat conv back. 4" rear extension too big and chance of getting damaged.
The mods I made to falcon cost me $350 form cat back that was for 2.5".
Warranty I don't know

Re: Performance Enhancers
Jalal,
I had a brief chat to the mechanic at Cairns Nissan the other day about the NGK spark plugs.
I queried him if they would affect warranty. His only comment to me is to make sure these new plugs satisfy the heat requirements for the X-Trail engine. If the engine blows because I’ve installed non-standard spark plugs, this won’t be covered by warranty.
I don’t think there is too much to be concerned about with the NGK plug, but just thought I should share this info with the group.
Perhaps we need to investigate the heat ratings on these plugs?
Kind Regards

Re: Performance Enhancers
Noel,
The NGK iridium plugs which I mentioned came-up as an X-Trail optional spark plugs on the NGK web site, so I can only assume that they meet the heat requirements your mechanic was talking about, otherwise NGK could be in big trouble for claiming this on their web site.
Also, when I had my last service (before the recall) I asked about spark plugs and the service manager told me that I could have the Platinum tipped plugs fitted if I wanted to spend the extra money and they would have no problems fitting them for me.
P.S. Nissan could make exactly the same claim against fitting the K&N air filter, when we all know that it is better for the engine than the standard nissan one, so it depends how you and nissan look at this. I certainly didn't hear my dealer complain when the technician opened the bonnet to find stickers saying "Do Not Discard this Filter" and K&N stickers all over
EDIT: Heat Test results for the iridium NGK plugs compared to the Platinum tipped NGK plugs can found HERE
Just click on the Iridium IX (feature product), the click on "superior to platinum" on the left hand-side.

Re: Performance Enhancers
Ok,
Just got my NGK Iridium IX spark plugs today and have them now installed.
There is definitely a small increase in power and the engine seems to run more easily.
I have to say, changing the spark plugs did not have as high an impact as changing to the K&N air filter. Although I’m sure it all helps.
Kind Regards
