Airconditioning Vents - Location opinion

Hi

I'm still searching for 'that deal' on my future exy and would like to know if anyone has strong thoughts good, bad or otherwise on the much discussed location of the air-con vents in the series I and the series II.

Does the series I freeze your knee caps of and does the series II freeze your knuckles of? Is this a big enough deal to warrant buying one series over the other? I can test it, but to live with it day in day out is different.

Re: Airconditioning Vents - Location opinion

Hi Rich,

To be honest I think the air-con vent configuration is much better on Series II.

I have Series I and I find that the left side of my face gets cold air, while am missing the same from the right side. So I keep rotating my neck to catch the cold air from all directions. hehehe "just kidding"

Also the middle air-vent above the steering column (I think) on Series II is really handy and gives you that needed cold breeze straight in your face if you're a hot-blooded person like I am emoticon

Am not sure if Series II have better fan speed, but I find that in real hot summer days, I have to keep the fan speed at 4 (full blast) at all times to get that needed cold air circulated around the cabin.

If I compare the performance of the air-con between the exy and my old Camry, I would give much more points to the Camry, but then again, the cabin of the Camry is smaller being a sedan.

It would have been nice to have rear air-con vents in the exy.

Hi Richard,

I myself am another hot blooded person. I have a series II and the air vent in front of the steering wheel isn't big enough! Actually, seems to run very nicely on 2nd fan speed. Initially use fan speed 4 to cool down for 5 mins then turn it down to 2 to keep temp.

Thanks Matt,

It's an issue that I expect cars to perform well in. I couldn't imagine having a car for years and complaining everytime I use air con. Series II sounds like the deal, but they are newer and more pricey. I'm looking for the TiL or STX with sunroof, manual...but I'm in no rush, although I'd like to start doing some 4WD this summer.

Cheers

Mine is series 1; would rarely turn the fan above 2 though (is that because Melbourne is more temperate - or because the noise would drive me mad). I reckon the left arm and shoulder get more cold air than the right.
Mine has some rear vents under the front seats - I have assumed these work if you set it to foot, but have never really tested them out. We virtually always have ours set to face.

Hi Richard,

I myself have ST-X with sunroof. In the summer I normally pop the roof and turn the a/c on max to cool the car down and all of the hot air, which is supposed to rise will vent through the popped sun roof. Once cool I put the roof back down. If the weather is great I usually just open the roof right up and then I don't have to worry about the A/c, although I wouldn't recomend driving on the highway, its just too noisy, leave this for the beach and 4WDing!

Re: Airconditioning Vents - Location opinion

Thats the idea Matt.

Melbourne is better for air-con use because of the low humidity and shorter length of summer (I guess). Canberra and this part of the world has intense heat and occasionally I drive during the day for work and I need a good air-con system to stay cool(cold).

Do you notice any drop in power when using air-con?

Re: Airconditioning Vents - Location opinion

Hi Richard and all

Although I'm struggling to remember when I last needed the air-cond on, I can vouch for the effectiveness of the face vent on the series II.

I do have one quibble though - no matter what position the air direction knob is set on, the hot/cool air also comes through the face vent and the outer dash vents.

I'm particularly sensitive to heated air on my face (dries out my sinuses - yeah, wuss, I know) and if I have the heater on my feet I have to close the face vent, which is annoying.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Cheers
Brenton

Re: Airconditioning Vents - Location opinion

Have to say I thought the Series 1 ac was ordinary. Like matt I would pop the sunroof - but the other trick someone showed me was to select external air for the few minutes and then select the recirc.
Seeme to work really well
