Re: Exy Insurance Cost Comparison

Wow NRMA charged $700 for $30,000 5months ago GIO Platinum quote today $740 they said even if our car was 15 years old and was written off and had say 250,000kms on it we would still get a new car ? But I reckon there is some clause in the background lurking and i dont trust what they are saying.

Re: Exy Insurance Cost Comparison

Odd that you are quoted so much.

I have not held insurance for 35 years but was immediately given a full no- claim bonus when I walked in.
(Well, I certainly had not made any claims, so I suppose that was fair enough).

i paid $472 for Comprehensive MV insurance including windscreen with RACQ full replacement new for old in March 2012 for the Feb 2012 Registered 4wd ST CVT after they price matched to APIA .

APIA apparently seemed to default to using AAMI as the underwriter (all under the Suncorp umbrella) without disclosing that information to me, and I'd read enough about AAMI on WP to put that firm on the 'not preferred ' list.

Glasses replacement valuation was over $40k for that new model with those options/accessories.

It seems Insurance Companies prefer Glass valuations over Redbook.

My purchase price was substantially less than that with all the discounts, but that was what they expected to pay for the replacement under that policy, so whatever the price variation, new for old replacement is covered for the first 2 years with RACQ for the $472.

Naturally I had to pay to become an RACQ member to get that cover, but that membership in itself was another bonus with hire car, transport and accommodation paid for if needed as well as a stack of other bonuses .

Re:

Most insurance company have a new for old policy if the car is badly damaged or written off in the first 2 years.

Honestly though, if after 6 or 7 years with the same car and you write it off, would you really want another car like it.
I would probably want to change for something different.

It depends on the car Tony. However am not sure how the insurance company would manage model changes with such a policy, as some models could no longer exist in that time period, so are they going to replace the old/damaged model with a brand new car from the upgraded model range?

It just doesn't make sense at all.

Re:

Dogtrail that cover is $200 less than mine for a 2011/2012 model i checked mine and it was $632 with full no claim bonus etc i will definately be checking to get that price next time maybe its cheaper in QLD than NSW even though my quote was for country area no high risk imagine if you lived in a risk postcode mine would have been right up there.

Ok i phoned APIA and the quote came out nearly exactly the same as what i paid with NRMA but NRMA was better as it was with glass cover .The operator said as i thought that its cheaper in Qld to insure your car.Interesting thing was i got a quote for another car thats due soon last year i paid $432 APIA wants $600 i wont be gong near them.

Insurances are all over the place as seen tonight on current affairs report
