Re: bash plate

Heyt Jalal, I like the look of this plate and white would suit me, how much did they end up coming it at, if you don't mind me asking?

The only concern I have is all the cut out bits (T30 4WD), I think that sand driving may cause some problems with a buildup of sand under the car adding more weight. With all the sand going through these holes, how would cleaning this out go, would it be a bit of a chore?

I really like the look of it though. emoticon

Jalal,
Any chance of a group buy discount, or better still, do you have any contacts who can make it cheaper locally. Thanks.

Re: bash plate

Hi Brett,

Yes, we can arrange a group-buy for the bash plate/s but let me get the type 1 as well and test fit them both on a Manual exy, so you guys can choose the design you like the most.

I don't think we can make it cheaper locally.

P.S. Jamie: I just remembered the purpose of the cut out letters. Air Circulation! you don't want that bash plate fully enclosed and trapping the heat of the engine bay within it.

Re: bash plate

I have to agree with the air circulation... My engine bay temperature is much higher when I have my bash-plate installed. I have noticed the engine (oil) temperature has dropped slightly now (even with this hotter weather now) since having removed one half of the bash-plate (for the 30,000 service, and I haven't got around to reinstalling it yet).

If I had one of those in/out thermometers (like I had in my Pulsar) it would be interesting to see the temperature differences with and without the bash-plate installed...

I reckon the airflow to/from the bottom of the engine bay is very restricted with the bash-plate installed. Without it, at least there would be enough turbulence to allow some of the hot air to escape. The big spotties would also be restricting airflow through the front grille, too.

Hi Rich,

The Ti has an ambient sensor as part of the climate airconditioning but it is mounted infront of the radiator so I don't think it will pickup any differences in engine bay temp for you.

  GHETTO BASH PLATE

Ok, it's a first for the xtrail forum. A typical 'ghetto' mod that looks as good as the real thing (well maybe in the dark with the lights turned off emoticon )

Now the truth, this is only my template for the manual, which I want to compare to Jalals' nice and shiney bash plate for the auto model.

I think with a can of chrome paint, it would be hard to tell the difference. emoticon It still needs a few ventilation grooves cut into it.

I think right now Jalal's reciting the old 'Coke' advert slogan, "There's nothing as good as the real thing."

The black plastic bits hanging down on each side will need to be trimmed away to give a flush fit, but I am a little impressed with my first 'ghetto mod'.

Hate to disappoint you mate, but it's not the first. It is actually the 3rd attempt at making a DIY bash plate emoticon

The first one was Shane (titanx04) with his home-made steel plate for the manual (which I ended-up scoring when he sold his exy)

The second one was Richi's bash plate (based on the one I had)

And now yours (based on the real thing LOL)

Not really, the home-made bash plate I had has done its job in my off-road adventures and I was pretty happy with it. The only down-side was:

1. Weight (15Kg)
2. Hard to install and take off (too many screws and fiddly bolts)
3. The need to drill 2 holes in the chassis for 2 extra bolts at the rear of the plate.

This can be added as a slight disadvantage to the points I already made above. You should design a plate that will either cover the plastic bits or "replace" them.

Still, a very good effort indeed. Well done emoticon

Check the previous pages of this thread for some measurements Rich and I have posted of our previous bash plates. Maybe they will be of some help to you.

Re: bash plate

I admit mine is the bodgier version as I don't have access to decent equipment like bending presses etc... I bent my aluminium by hand (ok, standing on a big block of wood and pulling the metal upwards until I got the angle I wanted).

Hey, I did tell you it was bodgy! emoticon Would've looked good as a D.I.Y. video, too!

Re: bash plate

Seems like this would be good for basic protection - not serious off-road.

A few questions, if I might:

Would that be Nissan Au or Nissan Globally ?

Do you have a part number ?

Is it designed for both series one and two ?

Interested in obtaining one but would prefer to source it locally rather than try having it shipped...

TIA.

Cheers
