Re: Fuel Filler Tube Rust Recall
Hi Guys,
Just received a call from the dealer which I was expecting but didn't want to get.
My Monday 5/6 appointment has been cancelled due to lack of parts and everyone else who had his exy booked at Rockdale Nissan would soon receive the same call.
Nissan Australia advised the dealer that no more fuel filler tubes are available at the central warehouse and they have been ordered from Japan.
They asked me to call again in 2 weeks time.
When I asked who's responsible for any damage or loss that may happen in the meantime, the answer was "Nissan Australia" and they told me I'm covered as my booking (and cancellation) is recorded on the system (dealer system that is)
It makes me wonder what sort of poor planning this is on behalf of Nissan Australia when they knew about this recall since March '06 and also had an idea about the number of affected xtrails, yet failed to stock-up on parts during this period before announcing it formally to the public!

Wouldn't Nissan still be responsible even if you hadn't booked it in and a problem occurred?
I guess so, but the case would be stronger if you have the booking and/or cancellation on record!
In all honesty the dealer did mention that had Nissan felt that it was such a serious problem, they would have advised owners NOT to drive the car until the recall inspection is carried-out.

I must admit that this does not worry me all that much, so long as I know the work was done!
Yes of course, however it'll be very important to the next person buying your car (if you plan to sell it at some stage that is)

Re: Fuel Filler Tube Rust Recall
Well looks like this shortage of stock is effecting every dealer in the country,
I had my exy booked in this morning, and dropped it off, only to be told that: "Sorry didn't we call you? We are all out of stock and the next order for these parts won't be in for at least a month."
As my dealer explained this recall initially was for an inspection only. Part way through the recall process Nissan changed their mind and decided to replace the affected part instead. Hence the reason why there is a shortage of parts now.
For those of you that have their exy booked in for this recall, I advise you call your dealer the day prior to confirm they have the necessary parts.

Re: Fuel Filler Tube Rust Recall
Brett,
It is possible that Nissan have decided to halt sending letters for the time being after realising they're short on parts. They have caused enough chaos already when the sent all these letters in one go and forgot to check their stock.
So, if you believe that your exy is within the affected range, wait until the end of June (expected availability of the part in question) OR call Head Office and ask about the letter. They might not have your details showing correctly on their system and that is another good reason to call them direct and ensure you will get the letter.
