Re: Oil Change

G'day Mate,
I have just had my 10,000 k service done and the crowd down here at Alan Mance Nissan use the "special blend" nissan oil (why not, its probably as dear as hell!) but the oil is 7.5w/30. If you have a look at the viscosity Vs temp chart in the owners manual you can get some idea of what it will take but be aware that the lower the 1st number (eg.7.5) the better fuel consumption you will get.
I have also just bought some "NULON" 10w40 which I intend to use on the next change. It was pretty reasonbly priced at about $28.00 for 5 litres. The other thing to look at is the "WESTCO" or WESTMAX oil filters. they are about 2/3 of the price of the Ryco model and are what Nissan use in Malaysia and Indonesia. Ironically they are owned by Ryco!
And btw, the Ryco filter I was looking at is made in South Africa!
Best of luck

Shane. emoticon

I have just purchased the manual on CD through Ebay ($12.95), so hopefully this helps.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Would you happen to know where I might obtain a copy?

Re: Oil Change

hey guys...

its time for an oil change...

is GTX3 15W-40 grade oil too thick??

ive got a rough understanding of oil grades, and from what i gather a general rule of thumb is the lower the first number, the better the fuel economy, but a slightly thicker oil will preserve engine life according to the castrol website...

does this sound about right?
cos id be more inclined to live with slightly worse fuel economy if it means my QR is being looked after.

so my choices are either the 15w-40 that ther is conveniently a 5L bottle in my garage, un opened!
or something like 10w-30 magnatec or similar
which suits better?

thanks!
